newbie ruger owner confused and kinda upset. Two weeks ago my son bought his first rifle, a ruger 10/22 carbine. Believe it or not he got it from walmart. We went to the range last friday and the rifle performed like a real champ. Cleaned and lightly lubed afterwards.Took it to the range today, and nothing. The rifle refused to feed even one round. When the magazine is out the bolt action appears to be real smoothe. We tried two different brands of ammo and the same results. The rifle appears to be trying to load shell into chamber but gets it about half the way there and the bolt stops about 1/3 of the way open.We are not rifle experts, but we have heard that the 10/22 ruger is a good rifle. We are beginning to wonder if that is true. I called ruger today and they listened to my story and immediately said we will send you a new mag, so they are sending one. By the way i also bought him a butler creek steellips 25 rd mag for it too, and that one won't feed either.Has anyone had problems like this, any thoughts. Since they are sending a new mag i guess we will wait and try that. I'am going to take the ruger to a trusted local gunsmith and have him look at it to see if there is another obvious problem existing we don't know about. And this is the kicker.... If we want it serviced by ruger we will have to pay the freight there, along with a 20.00 service fee along with another 12.50 for them to ship it back. I can see paying the freight there but , a service fee on a new warranteed rifle? Some guarantee. Can't see ever recommending ruger to someone else. My other son has a mossberg 702 plinkster costing half the price and it outperforms this thing hands down. Sorry , i guess i'm venting a little. Nothing like having a frustrated young adult regretting his first firearm purchase.
