Most of them are reliable from what I've heard. I've tried Ramline and others and they seem to work just fine, but what's the best way to go on 30-rounders? Some are manufactured with steel lips and others are plastic. Is it better to get one steel-lipped model or three plastic?

Since I put in the Volquartson extractor all the plastic high caps have worked fine for me -- Ramline, Butler Creek plastic lips, Shooter's Choice, and Eagle.

Everybody says the 25 round ~$25 Butler Creek Steel lips are the best, but I've not needed to try them.

cdnn has 30 rounders they work just fine ive fired about 500 rounds thru mine . heres a butler creek hot lips with a eagle 30 rounder highly recommended. Picture0001-2.jpg

I got a bunch of 50-rounders made by Ramline. Ramlines seem to be okay but they're nothing that you're going to leave to your kids.

I also got a couple of the Butler Creek steel lip magazines. CDNN is having a Memorial Day sale.

BTW, machinist, that's a nice Ruger you've got. I love my stainless model, which is in a Butler Creek folding stock with a red dot scope. I've also got one in a Zebrawood stock and a 4-7x Bushnell scope. For the money, you can't get a better rifle.

I have an Eagle 30 round with plastic feed lips. It has work flawlessly for almost 20 years, that is as long as you clean it every 20 or 30 thousand rounds.

I have a gaggle of Butler Creek Hot lips 25's and a single 50rd RamLine and all work flawlessly for me since I bought them in the early 90's. I don't use the Ramline much though since it is harder on the thumbs to load.

I had ramlines/eagles and others. The first couple listed had for a few years and they split in half on me. Top cracked and under a full load would eject all the rounds all over the ground like a dropped champagne bottle.

The Butler Creek are by far the best. I have 2 that are over 15 years old now. I had bought some steel lips ones recently (the old ones are just the plastic) but the springs seemed a little weak and kept getting jams. I bought them a long time ago and never used them until last x-mas.

I need to oil the them a small bit and cycle them some more.

I'm not sure if "they don't make them like they used to" applies here.

I have a few of the newer (post AWB expiring) Butler Creek "Hot Lips" 25-rounders, and they all work fine in my 10/22.

I may buy some of the "Steel Lips" just-in-case......

agree with Big Boomer, I have tried several different types and the only ones that are sill standing are the butler creek mags, dont know how many rounds, maybe 12,000-15,000

Well, if people have used the plastic...er...polymer ones for twenty years, that's hard to beat. If you don't go slamming the mags into your rifle, they could last indefinately.

I've talked to people who have had some of these el cheapos loaded for years and they still function well, though it's advisable not to load them up to full capacity. Twenty or so in a 30-rounder should be okay.

From what I heard, you're not supposed to clean them, are you? If so, how?

I have eagle 30 rounders purchased in the late 80's that still work fine. after 1000's of rounds.

I bought a butler creek steel lips and the dang thing doesn't work. It won't feed the whole magazine even a majority of the time. I loaded it up and left it loaded last week under the theory that it needed 'broken in'.

I've had plastic lipped ones before that didn't work either. Could it be something with my rifle? I have a new VQ extractor, GM barrel. It works perfecly with the ruger mags.

I don't own one, but I have read numerous times that the hi-caps from Tactical Inovations work really well. They have them in aluminum or composite. They are a little pricey. IIRC, they feature a way to tighten up a loose fit in your magwell.

I have three of the Tac-Inv magazines, and I love them. Just about 100% reliability in my silenced 10/22 SBR. :)
