today i took my ruger 10/22 to the range and its not shooting like it should.. its a semi-auto rimfire rifle but i have to keep cocking the bolt back after each shot.. and i have remington 22lr and federal 22lr ammo for it. does anyone have any clue why its not shooting in semi auto?

and another problem is the trigger. i have to push the trigger to the side for it to shoot.. and way i can fix this? kind of disappointing since the rifle is brand new and i never fired it until today.. and help will be appreciated.

i asked some guys who worked at the range and they couldnt tell me why its not shooting right

Can you take it back to where you bought it? If you can ? Thats what i would do.
If not.Try a different mag. lightly lube the action.

no i brought it about 4-6 months ago and i lost my receipt. ill sell it for $100 if anyone wants it SAM_9476.jpg

do you think the ammo has something to do with it?? i have remington 22lr hollowpoint 550 round box..

Does it spit the spent shell out?
I wouldn't sell it for $100.00. Evan if I got it for free

is it chambering another round? Or is the action completely failing to operate. When you "cock" the charging handle does it spew out a fresh round or the spent case? Or is the chamber empty?

As far as the trigger I have no idea. triggers are very simple and there is just a little button behind it that it bumps to release the sear, I don't see how it's even possible for you to have to push it side to side.

no it doesnt eject the round after i shoot it. i have to cock the bolt back for the round to pop out.. i just took the stock off and i think i fixed the trigger problem. the main problem its not shooting semi auto

Take it back to where you bought it or call Ruger if that's not an option (should be covered under the lifetime warranty). There is something definitely wrong and will require pulling the rifle apart entirely.
If you want to try it yourself (you may void the warranty, not sure how ruger feels about that), pull the stock off and check to see if the pins holding the fire control group in are both in and through both sides of the receiver. If so, you'll have to go deeper in the receiver.

I bet if you take it to a gun smith. He will pop it apart ,look at it for 3 seconds, fiddle with something, hand it back to you. & tell you to go have fun.

It looks pretty customized, perhaps someone put a really heavy spring in it for whatever reason and the bulk ammo isn't working the action enough for it to pull the case free. May also be that a match barrel is holding on tight to the ammo also, but that looks like a stock 10/22 barrel so I doubt the problem is there. Look up a youtube video or 6 on how to dissassemble and clean a 10/22, as they will show you how to take the action apart, it's pretty simple. Check to make sure that the spring isn't rusted or in any other way crazy looking. Is it hard to pull back the charging handle when you cycle it?

The Butler Creek stock is letting the pins that hold the trigger assembly walk out. Take off the stock, re-center the pins, and put a little scotch tape over them so they can't walk any more.

Fixed.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE INPUT!

Ill try everything everyone suggested and see if that helps!
