I just bought a 10/22 Tactical (stainless barrel) and I want to replace the ridiculously large flash suppressor with a low profile thread protector. I just need to know two things:

1) the barrel diameter at the muzzle (I don't have a good caliper yet...) :banghead:

2) the thread length. (I know the size and pitch are standard, but I've heard these 10/22 tactical models have a longer thread length than the standard 0.400").

If anyone knows of a good thread protector that would work (without leaving a gap and matching the diameter) I'd love to know what it is. There are lots of cheap thread protectors out there, but I don't want to waste $15 just to find out it doesn't fit.

Thanks.

I found this thread protector on eBay. Not exactly the flush fit I wanted, but pretty close and specifically designed for the stainless 10/22. For $12 shipped, I guess it's hard to go wrong...

The dimensions were:
0.625" OD
0.565" long
So I guess the more "standard" 0.400" probably wouldn't work...

If anyone knows of a flush fitting one, I'd probably still swap it.

Dang. Should have measured it first. Description said "for 10/22 threaded barrels" but it's clearly not for factory threaded barrels. The length on my threads is 3/4" so this protector leaves almost a quarter inch of threads exposed. Back to the drawing board (or rather internet shopping...)
