Would just like an opinion. I recently bought another Ruger 10/22 used. This one came in an aftermarket stock, along with the original. After 25 rounds the trigger pin drifted out and the gun stop working. I pushed the pin back in and it happened again. This time I put it back in the original stock. No issues. So I shimmed the aftermarket stock so the pin can't drift out. Put 150 rounds down range flawlessly. My concern is the pin shouldn't be drifting at all. Would anyone recommend changing the pin? is this a symptom of a potentially larger issue? Or am I encountering a normal 10/22 problem. Thanx!

It's normal behavior for a metal 10/22 trigger group. The pins are only lightly held in place with friction and spring tension. This isn't a problem in use since the stock keeps them from drifting out of place, but some aftermarket stocks are basically hollow in this area and the pins can walk a bit. If you want to use the alternate stock you can pick up a like new plastic trigger group for cheap on auction sites. They don't suffer from this problem. There are also some aftermarket pin kits which use threaded pins to keep them in place.

My newer 10/22 does this. I cut a small flat piece of plastic and attached it inside the stock. Basically, created a tight channel for trigger group.
It's pretty ghetto but it works and you cant see it.

Thanx guys. Ya I already shimmed the stock. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't about to experience a catastrophic failure. Ya every time I took it out of the stock the other pins slid right out, which I knew was normal. I've worked on a few of them and never had the trigger pin drift. Thanx again.

The pins on my 10/22 are so loose that it's a problem when I take the gun apart. They don't move in the stock that I can tell. I have some sort of limited edition 22" bbl job that has a pretty nice stock and it fits very well.
