I just wanted to ask that all the 10/22 fans post a few pics and words of praise for their ideal 10/22, I'm in the middle of a build with mine and wanted to see what others have done. I haven't been able to find a good 10/22 forum as of yet so I thought I'd ask here.

Thanks.

Here's my latest 10/22. I wanted a lightweight, all-weather version for varmints. I chose the somewhat unpopular Tactical-solutions aluminum-shrouded barrel as it fit my needs (very lightweight, chrome-lined, and slightly "loose" chamber allows the reliable use of CCI Stingers, yet greater accuracy than the standard barrel.) Besides that, it has the usual trigger work, ext mag release, ext bolt handle etc--to my taste. Lastly, I decided to top her with a Trijicon Reflex sight for fast target aquisition.

The only thing I plan to do to mine is get a Volq hammer and weaponkraft bolt buffer.

It will still look like this after that though:

The top one is my light hunting gun. It started out as a Walmart special (22" stainless upgrade stock, no barrel band) like the one pictured in the post above. In its current incarnation, it has a 16.5" Volquartsen carbon fiber tension barrel, a Fajen stock, and a Weaver 6X scope with the parallax adjusted for 50 yards. Weight is just under six pounds. Very nice shooter, though it prefers match ammo to hunting ammo.

In the middle is a gun that started out as a standard carbine. The stock came from the Walmart special. The barrel channel has been opened up to fit the bull barrel now installed.

The bottom one is another ex standard carbine in a Boyd's Smartstock and has a 20" barrel.

All three have extended mag releases, bolt buffers, VQ hammers and extractors, yada yada. 10/22s are like tinkertoys for what passes as grownups.;)

This is what my 10/22 looked like at one time:

However, I got tired of lugging a 10 lb 22 around, so it's in stock configuration now along with some Williams peep sights.
Maybe one day I'll buy an aftermarket sporter weight barrel.

This is my 10/22 as it currently sits:

Sorry for the bad cell-phone pic. It's got a 16" Whistlepig barrel, a Hogue OM stock, and a cheapo Simmons scope. Really lightweight (well under 5 lbs), but I haven't had a chance to shoot it like this yet, will try to this week.

Here's mine.
I caught the tacticool bug, now I'm working on making it a tack driver, with a bull barrel, sniper stock and better scope.

Stop it guys really, stop it. Really I don't need to see all this. I like my 10/22 stock as is. No really, I'm not going to spend any more on that gun. Seriously. ... yeah this isn't going to end well.

I have a 10/22 and I intend to leave it exactly as it is.

It is an inexpensive, amazingly reliable, reasonably accurate little plinker. I love it too much to change it.

Having said that, I completely understand why someone would enjoy building a better 10/22.

I started out with mine with a Ramline synthetic stock, bipod and red dot (tacticool)

It looked like this:

Then I changed to a Butler Creek steel folder like this (at the bottom):

Then I bought an extended rubber pad for the factory stock and went back to it. Don't have pics yet, will post later. I think I like it better.

I still have the Butler Creek folder and will probably keep it for another 10/22 build later. At some point I'll likely build a target model too. I love these little guns. :)

Here's mine:
Revival Tundra LH Thumbhole stock
Green Mountain fluted bull barrel
Harris Bi-pod
WeaponKraft bolt buffer
Mueller APV scope
Rimfire Technologies V-block
Rimfire Technologies complete trigger group set @ 1lb
Rimfire Technologies mag release and bolt handle
an extreme amount of polishing inside the receiver
too many other small mods to list
More accurate than I am, and a pleasure to shoot

Could I have just as much fun shooting a completely stock 10/22? probably, but the amount of enjoyment I get out of shooting a rifle I have completely customized myself is priceless. I can't pull this out at the range without drawing a crowd, and the pride I feel afterwards is addicting. I think I'm going to build a few more soon.

I got most of my inspiration from RimfireCentral.com. I think that site is the friendliest and most informative website pertaining to .22's in the world.

This is the style mine is, just with a stainless receiver, silver scope, and blue/grey Boyd's stock:

Dang thing is light as anything, can almost one-hand shoot it and still hit the paper at 50yds

A couple months ago I bought a Ruger 10/22. Since then I've been modifying it.

Here's a timeline for it.

Started with this:: factory synthetic stock and stainless steel barrel. I mounted a Tasco red dot sight I had previously used on my pistol.

Then to this with an ATI Fiberforce stock, Weaver aluminum rings and a Bushnell scope::

I didn't like the black stock so I painted it with Krylon Fusion for Plastic Hunter Green paint and added a muzzlebrake::

DSC00380.jpg

While I liked the look of the stock alot and it's pistol grip, I did not like the cheek placement area. It was not easy to get comfortable. So I ditched that stock and went for this one. It's a Tapco T6. It's a keeper for sure!

I drilled and mounted a sling stud on the underside so I could use my bi-pod. I had to change the scope rings for a higher set. It's a shame because I really like those aluminum rings. *sigh*

Here's the latest pics.

Total mods so far::

Tapco T6 OD Green stock
Weaver 10/22 "See Thru" rings
Bushnell 4-12x40 AO scope (AO = adjustable objective)
VQ bolt buffer
VQ auto bolt release
VQ extended mag release
VQ target hammer and springs
muzzle brake <= painted it myself using Krylon black radiator paint. The original finish on it sucked.
Shooters Ridge bi-pod
Steel Lips 25 round mag

(VQ = Volquartsen) One of the top brands for aftermarket 10/22 hardware.

EDIT::

I purchased a slightly used WW Special barrel. This barrel is purely for looks. So... anyway...

Compare the before pic with the 18.5" carbine barrel and then the 22" WW barrel.

Years back Midway sold a Adams and Bennett heavy bbl and Hogue stock combination for 99 bucks. Put it on the 10/22 and accuracy was notably increased. A good trigger would add to the accuracy but I never wanted to put more money in the thing.

Mine is a box-stock 40th Year 10/22, complete with medallion in the stock.

Some time, I will probably pick up another (non-40th Year) one just to play around with in the customization area.

The 10/22 is the "Chevy Small Block Engine" of the rimfire rifle world. Can run it box-stock, or spend several large sacks of money to 'tune it up'.....and anywhere in between.

You COULD Take the Short Cut...

I've owned, modified & built several Ruger 10/22 over the years. Finally I wised-up & BOUGHT a Volquartsen Superlite. Yeah, it costs a chunk of change, but I've nickled & dimed myself to AT LEAST that amount on previous 10/22 projects in the pursuit of less than the Volquartsen delivers OUT OF THE BOX!

Most serious 10/22 project guns end up with little more than the Ruger factory receiver. EVERYTHING else built by somebody else, be it Power Custom or Boyds, Adams & Bennett or Bell & Carlson or, yes...even Volquartsen. In the end, the money you THINK you're saving is, in fact, a joke. If your goal is a 10/22 that really WILL shoot with the accuracy of any .22 LR bolt gun you've ever owned, just buy a Volquartsen. It looks just like a 10/22 to the casual observer, and shoots like an Anschutz Supermatch. No kidding, I've shot both!

Started with a bone stock, used, 10 year old rifle. Here's what I ended up with.
