Finally picked up a Ruger 22/45 5.5" BB (Mark III) in stainless.

Went to the range and shot about 250 rounds of various CCI products and was happy with results. I had one jam because the magazine wasn't fully seated which will hopefully loosen up after some more shooting as it's really tight to seat.

I couldn't have been more disappointed with the sights though. (This is a Target model, is it not?) Big cut out on the back (adjustable) "U-shaped" sight and a huge front black site made target aquisition and accuracy suffer. I'm now wondering if I should have purchased the Hunter....Grrrr!

So, what are my sight options? Are firesights available? Are they too large for real accuracy? I need a bright/colorful but small sights.

Additionally, thinking about a scope or red dot once I get the sights sorted out. Any red dots with magnification? Taking recommendations.

Thanks all! (And no, I haven't stripped it yet!) I do plan on 86'ing the magazine safety with a Mark II hammer bushing.

(Sorry, no pic of mine yet, but it looks like this)

I don't have a clue about answers to your questions. I bought a 22/45 soon after they first came out and really liked the sights. I liked it more after Ruger did a 2.5-pound trigger job on it. But I digress.

The black bull on the target is supposed to sit on the top of the front sight - IOW, you're aiming at the bottom of the bull and the gun is sighted in to hit up in the middle of the bull.

IIRC, the 22/45 is supposed to mimic the grip agle, control locations, and sights of a stock 1911........

It not a target model.... there is another Mark II/III for that. There is the Hunter model of the Mark III that comes with fire sights.......

Here's a quick pic of the new sight picture after I installed the Marble's front ramp sight and Ruger target rear blade that I mentioned a few posts back.

...and the new side profile.

Get a small (SMALL) holosight. Trumps pretty much all the other sight options out there.

Can't remember the name of it, but the one I saw was tiny and wouldn't add that much weight to your already top heavy Ruger. And I can say that because I had the same exact one.

EDIT: Found one. Similar to the Dr Optic.

I bought a MkIII Target (5.5" bull) model about a month ago, and, yes, the sights left a lot to be desired. I am glad you started the thread.

I decided to not change them until after 2000 rounds which will hopefully be today. I don't know why but I refuse to modify a gun until I put some serious rounds through it.

I like that sight picture of yours DrDeFab. After today's brick, I will probably start nosing around to see what sights to put on it. I want to scope it, but I still feel like it's cheating a bit.

Checkout the Rimfire Central Forum and go to the Ruger-Other section. Do a search for 22/45 sights. You should find several questions and answers related to your question. I can tell you this, I put a FO front on my bull barrel22/45 and the improvement was immediate. The rear sight was a ghost ring and I changed back to the factory rear. It helped with accuracy, but keep in mind, with the FO front sight, long distance accuracy is difficult, due to the rod brightness (especially outdoors), even with the smaller size light rod.
