Just purchase a Ruger Security 6 357 Revolver for my wife - don't know much about big calibers. I want to know if I can shoot 38 or 38 specials?

You can shoot anything from the mildest .38 specials up through the wildest, buttstomping .357s.

As an aside you got yourself a damn fine revolver.

thanks for info. i bought this gun from a farmer selling off a small collection of guns today. gave 200.00 ithink .357 is a little too much for her.

$200 is a good price, if in decent shape. The Six series is heavy enough that your wife may not have difficulty shooting .357 magnum loads, but if she does, then use a decent .38 +P. I find that my 2.75" Speed-Six is more manageable than my S&W 2.5" 19 with full house .357 ammo, even though both wear the same Pachmayr grips.
