"Ruger has discovered that a small number of Ruger-57™ pistols may have right safety levers that do not meet our specifications and may be prone to cracking. In some rare instances, the internal "leg" of the right safety lever may crack or break, rendering the manual safety ineffective. If present, this condition may cause the manual safety to appear to be functioning properly when it is not. Although only a very small number of pistols appear to be affected, Ruger is committed to safety and is asking owners of Ruger-57 pistols to immediately perform a routine function check of the safety lever to ensure its proper operation and, if necessary, sign up for this retrofit.

Potentially affected pistols include any Ruger-57 pistol with a serial number of 642-26274 or lower (including all Ruger-57 pistols with a “641” prefix). If your Ruger-57 pistol is within this range (641-00000 to 642-26274), you should follow the inspection procedure outlined in the Safety Bulletin to determine whether your pistol requires a retrofit. Ruger-57 pistols with a serial number of 642-26275 and above are not affected by this Safety Bulletin.

Details about what to look for and how to sign up for the retrofit also appear on our website at Ruger.com/Ruger-57Retrofit. The website also contains answers to Frequently Asked Questions, a video demonstrating the inspection process, and other information that you may find helpful."

Looks like an easy fix. I hope no one found this failure the hard way. If you bought one, check the sn

So - I guess there's a "MK II" already.

I like the verbiage that one of their own parts isn't meeting their own standards. Clever wording, that.

In any case, good they're getting after it. I know when I contacted them about my P85 safety last month they were more than happy to do the MK IIing to it quite quickly and at no cost after all these decades.

Todd.

Mines newer than the recall # s . I'll keep an eye on that safety tho. Even tho it's a range and plink gun , maybe pests and varmints.

Thanks for posting. Mine is a 641 XXXX so I better check this out. Haven't fired it yet nor sent in the warrantee registration, so they did not contact me directly.

Bob

Have not check my # yet, I did buy a early model.

Follow my 5.7x28 hand load ammo on the Reloading section! fun journey

Yes reloading those little suckers is not tough, but time consuming. I have had no issues with reloading except for deforming a case now and then probably due to poor lubing. Resizing is good for building arm strength.

Looks like I’m in the 641-xxxxxx retrofit junk! I should call them and talk with ruger. I use my safety religiously and If this sucker fail, I’ll be mad

GONRA sez - reloading bloated 5.7x28 FN cases from Factory Ammo
is easy with a LARGE PRESS, centerline all lined up,
RCBS SMALL BASE dies and STP case lube.

Cases are right back to factory dimensions and coating is (usually) NOT scraped off....

Mine and my brothers Ruger 5.7's are effected. My safety works fine. His is still unfired.

We aren't sure if we are gonna send them in. We did check them for proper function.

I just bought one a few months ago so I doubt it’s an early one but I’ll check the SN anyway.

I’ve only had it to the range once so far … I mainly bought it to share ammo and as a companion shooter for my AR57

I have the recall/watch model. my 57 works fine

Just a side note PSA has a new 57 coming out in a few months. It looks to be very nice and the nicest part the list price is $499.
WOW now that good price!
