I have read alot about Ruger 7722s not shooting well out of the box. I finally got around to buying one for myself this week. I mounted a Weaver T-36 on it for accuracy testing and had a brief range session yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised by these results:

The last group is the one on the top left fired with SK Subsonic HPs and it measures .23".

Sheffield;

Nice groups. I had a 77/22 once upon a time that also shot very nicely. Took about 10,000 rounds for the trigger to get acceptable, but that was the only gripe I ever had with it. I think they're great guns & worth the money. Hope yours stays with you for a long time.

Thanks 900F. The trigger is indeed a little heavy. I know there is aftermarket help for this problem. But, I think I will just shoot it like it is for a while. One thing I noticed is that it seems to put a cold barrel shot in the group with the following shots (something I was looking for).

Try the Timney sear for the 77/22. I have the same gun as you, but with the Timney sear. It's dreamy, and mine is just as accurate.

What I'm amazed at is how many different brands of .22 it really likes. It shoots ragged holes with T22, just as good as Eley Tenex. It's really a tolerant gal, and feels great...like a full size sporter.

I love my 77/22. I don't know how well it will group, because I've never tried, but I know it's a gun I will never part with. The reason is that my 77/22 was a gift from my father on 16th birthday, and was the first gun that was truly "mine" (as opposed to something my father owned and let me use). It was 1985, which I think was the first year of production for the 77/22, and it was (and is) beautiful. I saved money from my after-school job to buy a scope and sling for it, and spent many hours plinking with that rifle.

That last post reminds me of my Nylon 66 that I purchased with lawn mowing money back in 1973. Put many a brick of Wildcats, Lightnings, and Mohawks through that little plastic rifle. Still funtions flawlessly and groups well after all of these years.

I have two 77/22's, one blue and walnut in .22LR and one SS All Weather in .22 WMR. Both are accurate and I like them a lot. All I've done to them is a lighter trigger spring. Mine are using field guns and safety is paramount.

I have had exceptional range and field accuracy out of my 77/22 right out of the box. Of course, I've only ever owned the one, so this is anecdotal evidence, but mine is really great with irons, out of the box. Noticeably better than either of my 10/22's.

Well it was a beautiful "Spring" morning at the range today (high 60s):) . Very windy though:( . Even with the flags out it was not the best environment to continue testing the new Ruger.

T Shirts in January - Unusual, even for Alabama.

SK Std Plus turned in some good groups when I would pay attention to the flags. But, this rifle did not care for CCI Blazer. 50 yard groups:

I think this rifle is a keeper.
