Today I was looking at two P89's at a local pawn shop. One of them seemed to rattle quite a bit. Grip needed tightened as well. Not sure what it was, but I assume it was slop in the slide? Otherwise the gun looked to be in good shape. The guy at the shop said that was normal for P89's. Was he just putting one over on me or is that common with the older Rugers.

I really like the earlier P89dc models. The full frame feels good to me. But I sure wouldn't want a lemon. I'm looking for something fun to shoot paper and cans with that won't cost me an arm and a leg.

What do you think?

Ruger centerfire autos might rattle like a coffee can full of door knobs, but they work. The "P" models anyway. For killing cans, you don't need to spend a lot of money. A used P89 in good shape can be had for around $200 around here. At that price they're a bargain.
