I'm sure a few of you guys own or have owned one of these in .243. Groups? Factory rounds? Opinions?

Two facts make the Ruger American a very attractive rifle for me:

1) Ruger over-pressure tests every Ruger American before it leaves the factory.

2) Ruger accuracy tests every Ruger American before it leaves the factory.

The accuracy shown on the posts here at THR, and in the videos I have seen, are the norm for the Ruger American. It's a lot of rifle for not a lot of money!

Just commented on another thread about the Ruger American. I just finished setting one up with Vortex glass, RL22 load, 130 gr Nosler Silver tips, but in 270 win.. But one of my Son's just bought one in .243, which is my next, and very soon project for his wife to be used this deer season. As soon as I get that one dialed in, I'll PM you with the results if you haven't already bought. But I would say with confidence from how well the 270 win. has come together, you'll be satisfied with that .243 win..

I have tried a lot of loads in my .243 RAR and everyone would group 1.5" or better at 100 yards off a bench. Most would do consistent 1" 3 shot groups. I settled on 36.5 grs of Varget with a 85gr Sierra HPBT for whitetails. I also had good luck with both Sierra 100gr Game kings and Pro hunters . Hornady 100 Interlocks did well also. Powders I have tried are IMR 3031, 4350, Varget and H4831sc. Moderate loads seem to do the best for me. Some people don't like the 85gr HPBT for deer or the .243 for that matter. However, I have shot and seen deer shot with that bullet out of .243's and 6mm's that have fell down on the spot or ran no more than 50 yards to be convinced otherwise. The .243 RAR makes a nice coyote and groundhog gun also. You don't have to worry about scratching it up a little bit :)
