Need some technical advice from you men that are smithically inclined.

Bought a new .44 mag SBH Bisley Hunter. Took it to the range and shot about 40 rds through it. Accuracy was excellent. Previously installed a Belt Mountain Base Pin in it so the pin would not come out during heavy recoil. I shoot a Oregon Trail 310gr bullet over 20.5gr of WW296. The primers were not flattened or high after shooting, but I noticed the cylinder binded when it was rotated--just in one particular spot.
This happened with both cartridges that were unfired and with empty cartridge cases that were fired. It also happened whether cocking the revolver or when rotating the cylinder with the loading gate open. The binding does not occur when the cylinders are empty. Is this the cylinder or the mainframe that is out of tolerance? Or could there be some other problem? Thanks.

sounds like a burr on the back face of the cylinder. i would take a magnifying glass and check it out. would also spin the cylinder on that base pin while out of the weapon. should be smooth as butter.

I don't know if this is helpful, but I have found that certain Single Sixes are more sensitive than others in regard to dirty chambers. Sometimes a chamber will become sticky after a number of rounds, and the cartridge will not seat fully; then, the base of the cartridge will rub on the recoil shield. When this happens, I stop shooting until I have had a chance to clean the revolver.

I have not experienced this with Blackhawks, but I typically shoot many more rimfire rounds than centerfire.

Ok, the revolver is completely clean and the cylinder still binds when rotating it--just in one particular spot. May be a tolerance or burr issue. Thanks.

Yes, with the Single Sixes, it binds in just one spot, and only with cartridges (fired or unfired) in the chambers.

Good luck-
