Have a 45lc that every second shot the cylinder pin comes loose and the cylinder gets jammed up.... Ruger sent me a new pin but that did not help.

Anybody ever seen this before? Any suggestions? I have tried tightening up everything that I can think of.....

1976 model....

IT IS THE BASE PIN LATCH CAUSING THE PROBLEM.

Either it is defective and not holding the base pin in place or you are not putting the base pin into the gun so the base pin latch can engage it's slot properly in the base pin.

I think that Wolff makes a spring kit that includes a stronger pin for the base pin catch. You might call Brownell's and ask their tech rep.

Mine stays put ok but more tension would probably be nice.

There is a site called www.sixgunner.com that may have something on this as they discuss Ruger SAs a lot.

I had a similar problem on my SBH. An extra power locking pin spring didn't fix it either.

Do this:

Remove the cylinder and base pin. Observe and measure how high the locking pin protrudes out the side of the frame. Reinstall the base pin. Does the locking pin protrude the same amount? If not, the locking pin is not fully seating. I think this happens if the locking pin hole gets drilled just a hair out of spec. You can lap a little metal out of the base pin channel where the locking pin seats to get a better seat. A belt mountain basepin can also fix the problem.
