Does anyone know how durable the "color case" finish is on the New Vaqueros? I like the looks of them better than the shiny stainless version, but don't want any hassle. I've read that the original Vaqueros had some finish problems; not sure about the New models.

Thanks!

It's just that, a finish, well actually a coating. It's somewhat protected by a clear coat but once that clear coat is gone that case color won't be far behind. I have heard and seen pictures of that Vaquero that once had case coloring on it. It basically was rubbed out.
If youbuy one and the coloring comes off just send it back to Ruger and they will redo it for free. I have also heard they will just blue it if you like.
They should just blue them instead of messing around with case coloring.

I understand they are going to offer a version that's full blued with (fake) ivory grips. This seems to be an excellent solution to the problem, and I expect a lot of buyers will take it.

Yeah, the all blue with smooth white synthetic grips is so far a distributor special (Davidson's). We may see more later:

The fake-case finish on my New Vaq is not *attracting* rust, which is good. But Ruger should definately have done all-blue much like the 50th Anniversary 357 Blackhawk.
