If he never shot it, and you never shot it, I would continue that trend, and make it a safe queen, or sell if for about 1000 bucks...

It's the Deerfield Mini-14 type. At first I was having problems with the bolt cycling at all. I tore the rifle down as far as I could and cleaned every part I could get a Q-tip into. That fixed some of the issues. I am now getting 1 or 2 Failure to Eject per 4 round mag. I've tried several different types of ammo with none making things any better.

I jump on the purchase without looking to much into the well being of the rifle. I was looking for something a little unusual to add to my collection. As soon as I saw the huge hole in the front of what I though was a Mini-14, I jumped all over it.
i was having similar issues with mine at first ,it wasnt cycling as it should, mine was brand new and i do think these need to be "broken in " as the recycling springs are pretty stiff from new ,another place to look at is the gas ports make sure they are free from any fouling in the barrel ,never use lead projectiles as these are known to foul the ports, scope ring heights on these need to be high as the lower ones unfortunately deflect the spent cases down back into the chamber causing feeding problems for the next round, also they seem to be a little fussy on ammo maybe that will change as they get more broken in ,i had problems with american eagle and highland brands feeding then i switched to Hornady which is a little hotter with no problems at all,i also noticed with the american eagle etc when my 15 yr old son fired it the ejection problem seemed to be worse than when i did he weighs around 62 kg whereas iam 108 kg and obviously he will roll more with the recoil than i which also points to the spring needing to be well broken in, as physics tells me that the more mass behind the gun and less "roll" with the recoil the more load that will be put on the spring thus the crisper the action.hope some of this may help, hang in there when you get these sorted they are little gems cheers.

Thanks for the info. I had not even thought about the springs. I have no idea how much use this thing has seen. As for the American Eagle ammo, that seems to be the brand I have the least amount of problems with. :(

i think i have a few rounds of American eagle still floating around,in my ammo box ,next time out i will put a couple through and let you know how they cycled,i had a good look at a little ruger m77 .44 mag today in stainless synthetic to my knowledge they have only put ss out no wood /blue,nice little gunthough probablycouldnt justify two .44 mags.........or hmmmmm.
