Ruger GP100: sticky rounds in the cylinder

Even though I've deep-cleaned the cylinder on my Ruger GP100 revolver, I still have some rounds of Winchester .357 not sliding perfectly in. Instead, every few rounds stick out a few millimeters requiring an extra push. This isn't the case with other kinds of ammo.

What could be causing this ammo in particular to be "sticky"? Could it be how it's stored, or what?

Do you ever shoot .38 special rounds? I know you said you cleaned it, but by any chance is there a ring in each cylinder from shooting .38's?

Is it the same holes in the cylinder? If you take one of the 'sticky' rounds and load it into another chamber, does it go all the way in, or is it still sticky?

Do you know someone close by with another .357 revolver? Try some of the sticky stuff in that gun.

Could be a bad lot of ammo, or maybe a bit of crud still in some of the chambers.

Get yourself a .40 cal bronze bore brush and a cordless drill.

Now, use nitro powder solvent and work over the chambers real good.

When you get done, they will really be clean & free of carbon fouling, and the rounds should fit.

If they don't, it's likely over-size ammo.
Factory loaded .357 cases should measure no more then .379" - .380" max O.D.

Don't shoot Winchester.

Iosso or JB bore cleaner, and a tight fitting patch.

For that matter, soak a few patches down, and stuff in for a few hours.

Thanks. I'm going to work the chambers a bit. I ran a bore cleaner through it and some .357 rounds went in just fine, but after holding an individual round in my hands until it was warm, it stuck a bit going in. I guess it's just a little too tight of a squeeze and needs some work.

I have been shooting mostly .38 special rounds lately, and there is a darkish impression towards the front of each cylinder. I've only been cleaning it with a a rod and cloth, but will be purchasing a better bristled bore cleaner. Do you think that will make the difference?

For tough fouling, like what you seem to have, you need a brush. Bronze is good.

After shooting .38 spl. I give each cylinder a squirt of Kroil wait ten minutes and hit it with a bore brush, then patch it clean. .357 will just drop in. If I don't do this it's hard to chamber and harder to extract
