What kind of accuracy can I expect from a Ruger Hawkeye Walnut stock 22" barrel in 22-250. If I can 1moa I'll be happy.

it will all depend on a few things. I would say that most hawkeye's come out of the box shooting about 1-1/2 MOA to 2 MOA. Sometimes you can drop 1/2 a MOA by free floating the barrel. Maybe another 1/4 by bedding the action. Then when you find a sweet load you can get it down to 1/2 moa assuming you got a good barrel. If not the best you will probably see from a hawkeye is 3/4 MOA with a very specific load that your gun shoots the best.

I now own three hawkeyes and three MKII's. By far the most fun and reliable hunting guns out there. But they aren't match guns.

Not quite apples to apples, as my Hawkeye is in 222 and is a SS-synthetic configuration. But, with Rem Corlokt it is able to hold under an inch with regularity and into the 8's frequently. That is bone stock.

Will be using it as a walking varmiter hunting coyotes. Won't be shooting any matches with it. If I cant get minute of coyote out to 300yd I'll be happy.

My son and his .308 Hawkeye would shoot moa bone stock. Shoots under with a custom stock and bedding.

Do you handload. You have an advantage if you do, as you can tweak the load to what your rifle likes.

My only experience is with a tang safety model Ruger in .243 Win. With H4895 and 85 grain Seirra GK BTHP bullets it will cloverleaf them.

The Hawkeye's as a rule are much more consistent than the Mk-II's. The older guns could be accurate, but many were not. I haven't seen one of the Hawkeyes made since 2006 that wouldn't shoot right at or under 1 MOA.

I don't think there has been a Ruger produced in twenty years that wasn't capable of minute of coyote ot of the box. You will be fine. After a while you might find the trigger a bit limiting. It's fine like it is, but a bit heavy and is not adjustable from the factory. I chose Timney, but any will be better than stock.

I have 2 Ruger 77 RSIs, one in .270 Win and one in .308 Win and a No. 1 in 6.5x55. All three shoot to 0.75 MOA or better.

I currently own 2 ruger M77's. One is a 30-06 the other is .308. Both shoot honest half Moa 3 shot groups at 100 yards with my hand loads. They both shoot around Moa with factory offerings, just like most factory rifles will. Both are the synthetic stainless all weather. One is a mark II the other a hawkeye.

The mentality of a ruger being inaccurate comes from back in the day when they outsourced barrels with the tang safety model. They got some bad barrels and that reputation has stayed with them since. IMO they shoot just as good as any other factory rifle, the key is torquing down that front angle screw really tight. You need to look up the proper torque but it's up there for sure.

I have owned other Rugers with the same performance... The only one I couldn't get better that 1.5 MOA was a paddle stock mark II in .338 win mag. I believe it was more the recoil affecting my ability than the rifle.
