Put 20 rounds of 140 grain wad cutters through my new LCRx today and all impacted the 9 inch paper plate from 7 yards. Two rounds hit the edges of the plate and the remainder were all on the plates flat surface. DA trigger is great, but still a little stiff as compared to my LCR. Single action is great. After registering the LCRx with Ruger I did use the 20% discount to order a front night sight from the Ruger store. Have one that came with my LCR and they are a definite plus for this revolver.

That was fast - I hadn't even heard of this external hammer version. What made you choose it over the internal one?

Edit: apologies for poor reading comprehension.

I also have the internal DAO model, but wanted the DA/SA capability. Got real bad arthritis in my trigger finger and the option for SA just makes it easier for me.

camper, I envy you. Snuck the wife's LCR out today to test some reloads for snubbies. The DAO shoots good, but the SA sounds interesting.
The hammer looks lower than most DA/SA. What do you think of it?

I like it and plan to carry it as soon as I get and have the NS mounted.

Thanks camper! Well, it looks like the LCRx will move most of the items on my wish list down a notch. ;)

I really wanted a Ruger LCR until I heard about the LCRx. Now... I need to think about it.

I guess I just need to know if I need the SA option and will it create a "Snag" problem.

if I need the SA option

Is better to have and not need than to need and not have. I have yet to have a gun "snag" by a hammer when putting into action. You never know when you will "need" to put one in a tight place.

Don't get me wrong - I like the idea of the LCR with a single action option if that's what you want. Until I handed my Wife a revolver (she grew up with them on the farm) I always prefered to shoot a revolver single action as that was the way I learned. For accuracy, thumb the hammer back and get it in single action mode. Used to shoot my Dan Wesson at 100 yards like a tack driver that way.

I handed her a revolver (her Dad's S&W model 19) and she raised the gun and pulled the trigger. Put three rounds in the X with .38 Specials at 21'. I was stunned...she never shoots SA. She has a Ruger LCR and despite tha fact that it initially beat her up with recoil, she hits very well with it DA only. So, I figured if a little chic can do it, so could I.

Now I prefer DA and shoot our LCR well enough I wouldn't trade it for a hammer/SA/DA model. It's just another thing to snag on a pants pocket. For a kit gun with a longer 3" barrel? I'd like the option.

I used to never shoot 'em DA until my Wife did it.

Just sayin'.
