Ok guys so ruger has announced a new form of their highly successful LCR the LCRx it is chambered in 38 special plus p and is SA/DA what do you guys think about it me I'm excited

I'm excited for guys who want the single action option added to the LCR .38. I have the LCR and it has possibly the best double action trigger I have ever used and the gun is light and pocket carry friendly to the Nth degree.

If you haven't shot one I'd recommend that you rent one (the LCR) before buying as the recoil can be somewhat daunting depending on your perspective. I love the gun but full house .38s are pretty stiff and sting the hand for me.

Can't imagine shooting +P but then that depends on yer ability to deal with the recoil. I do love the gun and the trigger - just not the recoil!

I don't think you need SA ability on a snubby like that, in fact I think most people are better off without it as they'll be forced to practice with that DA trigger pull. And of course, there's the slightly added chance of the hammer snagging.

But obviously enough people asked for it to get Ruger to offer it.

I'm wondering if the double action trigger will be like the original LCR (smooth) or will they make it 12 lb because U have the option of single action. Leave it to them to goof things up.

Heck, it took Smith and Wesson 25 years to finally make a concealed hammer revolver, Ruger hit a home run imho right off the bat with their lcr and now for reasons unbeknown to me have put an exposed hammer on it. I just don't see the logic of s/a capability for a ccw. The concealed hammer guns are about as attorney proof as a gun gets.

Just looked at one on their website.
It's as ugly as the Tuppreware framed Taurus 85.
If I get one, I'll get the original design.
Snag free and no "hair trigger situation" to deal with in court.

Would of been better if it had the S&W J-frame Bodyguard type hammer. That, a 3" barrel, and a real rear sight, and you'd have a niffty kit gun. At least, in a kit gun configuration there would actually be a NEED for a SA trigger pull.

Wow!! I think it is a positive addition to their line. I have wanted a LCR for about 6 months.

It gives me one more thing to think about before I order it. I need to think on it for just a little while longer.

If a DA capability with a protected hammer is what you're looking for I'm happy with my S&W M638. It's too bad I already had the M638 before they came out with the M438. I can't complain though, I do have a no-lock M442 I now carry daily...

Why would Ruger put a fully exposed hammer on a pocket revolver?

My sentiments exactly.

I have always liked the snag free element of the shrouded hammer design. Over the years I have had a lot of J frame snubbies and the Model 638 and Model 649 are two of my favorites.

I have to agree...if I was gonna add to the LCR and it had to be a single action option I'd have made it a hidden hammer. This is just one more thing to get snagged on a gun that is super pocket friendly and snag proof.

I'm actually a little surprised that they are releasing a hammered version before extending the lineup to include a 3" bbl version. I think a .357mag LCR with a 3"bbl would be quite a nice belt gun.

My LGS has some coming and I'm on the list for one. I like the option of DA/SA and hope the trigger is as smooth as the LCR I have.

Ruger hit a home run imho right off the bat with their lcr and now for reasons unbeknown to me have put an exposed hammer on it. I just don't see the logic of s/a capability for a ccw.

Enough of their constituents asked for it, and Ruger listens.

If you needed to use your snubby quick you won't have time to fiddle around with a hammer.

If you want to use it for target practice single action, buy a larger gun.

I'm EXCITED! :D
My only hesitation with the LCR so far has been the LACK of an external hammer (I don't like pocket carry, so I don't care about snagging). The hammer is very low-profile, and I REALLY like that they kept the low-bore axis of the original DA. Also, having a lightweight snub that's narrower than my SP is VERY appealing...and the light weight means it would work with more outfits than my SP already does. Speedloaders would interchange, too.

Granted, I was hoping to stay 1 pistol/1 revolver, but a revolver-carry really works best with a backup/NY Reload setup.

Meh. I thought the DA trigger on the regular LCRs was light enough you didn't really need a single action. And the concealed hammer kept everything bound up tight and clean. I royally hate pocket lint in firearms.
