Ruger Mark III question.

I just got my new Mark III(not 22/45) competition target model. I'm trying to use put on the lock to put it away and the manual says to use the bolt stop to hold the bolt open. I've tried depressing the little switch that is marked as the bolt stop in the manual but every time i pull back the bolt it just flys back.
I would be very appreciative if someone could tell me how to use the bolt stop, I'm sure that I am just doing something wrong.

Lift up, not push down.

That should fix the problem.
