I found a Ruger MarkII heavy barrel 243 in a LGS and was wondering if anyone knows how accurate these guns are? I have owned other hunting rifles in Ruger and they were all ok for hunting but nothing special. I have always found Savage and Remington to our shoot them. I really liked this Ruger and thought if it would shoot it would be a good one for my collection I love heavy barrel accurate rifles. I have several still like std barrels for deer rifles but for varmint and bench heavy is better. Just wanted input. It looks nearly new with light colored stainless barrel laminate stock beautiful rifle for $749. I would like to make trade on it. Thanks

I have a KM77MKIIVT in 308. It is very accurate, smooth controlled round feed action,a trigger that is fully adjustable, stock is very straight and keeps the felt recoil at a minium, three position safety allows for the bolt to be operated with the trigger blocked, although the metal floor plate can dump the remaining rounds.

Haven't touched the trigger adjustments, it breaks at 2 # from the factory, I have had the chance to shoot a 6 PPC KM77MKIIVT that had the factory trigger worked to 2 OUNCES. Lots of shooters tout Savage's and their accutrigger, and I own 2, but they are not in the same class with the VT.

If I could find one 220 Swift or 6 PPC in good shape I would buy another.

My best group benched with the 308 was under MOA @ 100 yds with hand loads and I suspect that I can duplicate that on call.

Unless you are really in love with the rifle I wouldnt drop $750 on it. I can rattle off 5 different bolt guns that guarantee sub MOA out of the box for $600 or less new and a few in stainless. Keep in mind the .243 is pretty hot and most custom barrel makers will quote a life span of 2000 rounds but figure 4000 on the very high end with hot loads.

Pretty gun

I had one in 243 that was sub moa with 80 and 100. Just under moa. With 55gr it was not. I shot the exactly same gun in .204 that consistantly shot .325 or less. Never know till you pull the trigger.

Thanks for input you are right about 243 I have one in a CZ that is beginning to show wear not shooting quite as good as when it was new well over 1,000 rds thru her. I have not seen many good heavy barrel 233 rolifles around and certainly not $600 and under. Maybe a sporter hunting rifle.
