Got my first look at this weapon today. Quite a departure from the standard Mini 14 in the bells and whistles department.

A collapsible, folding, butt stock ,and a railed out handgaurd. 20 round magazine, pistol grip, and a heavier barrel . Priced at under $700 this Ruger should be a winner.

No mention of any such thing on Ruger's site. 'Tactical' is nothing but a marketing term. Where'd you see it?
"...should be a winner..." Should make another ton of money for Ruger. According to the few actual user reviews I've seen, they seem to have fixed the Mini-14 with the 'Target'. Don't think it's worth a grand though.

You have to hand it to Ruger for actually listening to their customers. People complained about their lack of compact pistols, they came out with the LCP and LCR. They finally listened to customers about the magazines and accuracy issues of the Mini and upgraded the barrels and made the standard capacity magazines standard. Now I want to see Ruger come out with the .45ACP version of the SR9. That's what I'm waiting for. My dream rifle from Ruger would be the .44 Magnum Carbine with a full length magazine but I'm not going to hold my breath on that one.

"...for actually listening to their customers..." You being facetious? They didn't do anything about the poor accuracy of the Mini-14 for 35 years. Mind you, they sold every one they made in that time.
"...LCP..." Currently under a recall(so is their SR9). Goes bang if you drop it.

I think they are calling this one the Tactical - they are releasing a number of new variations . This one came in to the Gun Shop in New Ulm, MN (Hunters Den).

I noticed they have one on Gunbroker - but they are asking a premium there.

My friend has his new style mini set up just like that. I like it, and want one for myself, but I'm sure I'd have the traditional wood stock on most of the time.

"...think they are calling this one..." An M-14/20CF on their site. 16.12" barrel with 1 in 9 rifling. $872 MSRP. Synthetic, Collapsible/Folding stock. It's an ATI with ATI Folding/Collapsible Stock. It is listed as a Mini-14 'Tactical' rifle though. 'Tactical' being a marketing term only. If it's as inaccurate as a regular Mini-14, you'd be better to spend the extra $200ish on a Target Mini and change the stock.
"...guaranteed not to hit anything..." It has always amazed me how some companies can make top notch firearms of one type of action, but can't make good firearms in another.
