On Friday, I was able to obtain a brand new Ruger MK II at half the sticker price, taking home a 5 1/2" bull barrel variant for the princely sum of $165 out the door. I was lacking a .22 handgun in my collection, and the Ruger will finally patch that glaring hole in my lineup.

I am curious as to which version of the Mark II seems to be the most favored among Mark II fans around here. I would have preferred a stainless steel version, but the price on the blued one was right, and it is certainly a fine handgun. It even bagged its first kill today, a mouse that was haunting the cereal packages in the storage unit. Mickey fell to an Aguila Super Colibri round after a brief search.

What's your favorite Mark II variant?

I have the same version as you, hundreds of rounds no problems, I started
using FP10 lube last year and the action is even more smooth now, fast,
accurate.

I've also got the same 5 1/2" bull barrel model. It is very accurate and operates flawlessly with the right ammo. I added a red dot sight which helps me a lot to realize the inherrent accuracy of the pistol.

Stainless 5 1/2 bull barrel.. I added a red dot after using one ragged hole sights not sure if i like the red dot better or not seem to shakey with it might go back to irons.

I had a Mark I with a five and a half inch bull barrel many years ago.
It is one of the few guns I sold.

Several years later, I got back into Bullseye matches and replaced the Mark 1 with a Mark II, also with a bull barrel. It feels good to me and works fine for match shooting.

slabsided bull barrel

I like the slabsides on my MkII - the balance is just right!

Standard Tapered

<hangs head , scuffs one foot>

I started so many years ago with the standard tapered bbl MKI.

I went to the 5 1/2 bull bbl MKII, various other stainless models . Then I found the blued versions worked best for me - dunno if its just me liking blue , the metallurgy or what - the blues guns were always more accurate and reliable. I then went to the 22/45 variant.

I don't have a .22 at the moment. If going to use a Ruger semi rimfire - the one I always grab to borrow is the MKI or MKII standard tapered bbl . I don't know if I'm going backwards on stuff or what....these simple standard versions I shoot best. I shoot the P4 ( 4" bbl) the next best over any slab side, bull bbl or longer bbl.

I shoot a model 18 Smith wheelie best in a rimfire handgun over anything else. I must be going backwards on stuff like I said.

Rival,

That slabside is beautiful. Especially when paired with a SERE 2000.

What does the Government designation mean in the poll? Is that the Government Target model? How does that differ from a regular bull barrel?

I have a gov't target model with bull barrel. I hope the B-Square mount I just ordered online will fit the gun. I believe it is the 6 7/8" barrel.
