Hi everyone, I have a problem with my ruger mk II. At least once every 150 shots there is a stove pipe jam. I'm using win super x ammo. It seems to happen clean or dirty and I haven't checked to see if its just on magazine. Also the pistol won't load hollowpoints they catch on the feed ramp. Any help wouls be appreiciated. Thanks, pete

Peteinct:
Try at least a couple of different brands of ammo. 22's can be well....persnickety about their ammo. Rugers are fairly well known to eat just about any ammo you feed them, though. And also, try to track which magazine has the feed issue, or if ti is both.

Case in point about ammo.... I had a Remington Nylon 66 rifle many years ago that would work with any ammo, Except the Rem "Golden Bullet" 40 Gr solids. Worked with the Golden Bullet Hollow Points, though.......go figure a Rem that wouldn't function with Rem ammo

Although my mk II eats whatever I feed it, it does function smoother, longer if I don't use lead or dirty ammo. Hope you figure out your problem.

Mark2's are ammo sensitive so keep trying different kinds. Stovepipes in the Mark2 are almost always caused by the extractor. Look at the extractor, see if its just a small point on the bottom with the rest rounded. You can call Ruger and get another extractor which will eventually cause the same problem or you can solve it for good with a Volquartsen exact edge extractor. If you want to try the Volquartsen, I'd suggest you get one from

www.ontargetguns.com Bill there is very good and will ship it out right away.

If you need help installing it, look here:

I had problems with the win X too, but they failed to feed!

My Mk II shoots very well with the cheap Wal-Mart Remington value pack.

Do a really good field strip, and use a dry lube. Tuff-Glide or Remington.

I had that same problem with my MkII. I stripped out the bolt. Hosed everything down with brake cleaner. Put the bolt back together, used a little Flitz on the bolt and put it back together. Overlubing will also cause jams.

Now the pistol goes about 2K rounds before cleaning.

Also check the mag. The spring might not give it enough push so the bullets may catch on the feed ramp. You can always use a little Flitz on the feed ramp. I did a little polishing with a Q-tip. Doesnt take much. Dont use a dremel!!!!

another recommendation for the extractor, and for on target guns. Both are excellent.

If it was just stovepipes, I also recommend the Exact Edge, but since it also won't chamber hollowpoints (Win PowerPoints?), you may have a funky mag. Put a small dot of tape, number the mags and see if your problems happen on one or all. I'd guess its one with damaged lips that's throwing everything out of whack. Ruger will replace it--service second to none.

Jams due to too much lube typically happen when the MkII is cold and freshily cleaned and work themselves out as the gun is fired. From your description, it doesn't sound like that's the problem.

Regardless, get the Exact Edge from OnTarget: money well spent.
