I am having about 1 jam every magazine and it is the same type of jam with a round getting caught above the recoil rod. I am also seeing some failures to feed from the magazine. If I cycle the bolt it will load and fire. I am seeing both problems with 4 different Ruger magazines.

Any thoughts? This is a brand new Mark II which I cleaned and lubed before shooting.

What ammo are you using, or has the gun done this with different ammo?

Jim

Change ammo, much 22 rimfire stuff is very poor, i believe more so now
then past years.

is there any way to post a pic of the stoppage?try some cci minimags-the solid points.sounds like the mag is allowing an extra shell in there instead of 1 at a time for 1 or another reason.my slabside had 1 stoppage as it was new also and on the original mag.I stopped firing it immediatly and took it home-cleaned then dry cycled the action(no ammo then no mag) for about 5 minutes and polished the feedramp with my dremel.I then scrubbed the heck out of the chamber with a .22 caliber stainless steel "tornado" bore brush.I applied a drop of rem dry lube to the trigger mechanism and thats all.hasnt had a stoppage since.it could be several things-feedlips on the mags, chamber, feedramp, ammo, or perhaps a metal bur left in there someplace from the machining process.try the cheapest solution first-go with some higher velocity ammo-solid points.(mine like winchester wildcats-only cause they are cheap)tell us how it turns out.

Jim and wingman,

I was shooting Federal Lighting's and did not have any other ammo with me to test. I have Remington Yellowjackets and Winchester Xpert at home but did not bring them to the range. Of the 3 are all junk ammo? My10/22 feeds them all fine.

standingbear,

thanks for the info on the fluff and buff. I will give it a shot. Next time I go, I will bring along my digital and post a pick of the jam.

I'm with the others on this one - try LOTS of different ammo. Since the pistol is brand new, it may just need to be broken in a little. Some great .22 ammo that is very accurate and reliable in every .22 I own is CCI Mini Mag. It isn't very expensive either. I can get it for about $2.99/100 rounds.

I shoot a lot of the cheapo "bulk pack" ammo, but when I feel the need to shoot some super tight groups that really make me smile, I pick up a pack of Mini Mags.

Anyway, try lots of different ammo, and shoot it a lot before you give up on it. If you shoot it enough that it ought to be broken in and it still jams with all the ammo you try, you may have to send it in to Ruger. They DO have excellent customer service though....

Best of luck!

steelhead...the feeding of your 10/22 is different than the way ammo feeds on your slabside.the slabside has a ramp whereas the 10/22 pretty much shoves em straight in at a slight angle.I think changing to cci minimags or perhaps a good high velocity solid point should fix it.the funny thing about semiautos is that each one has a favorite brand it likes.the cci mini mags are a safe bet overall though.then go from there testing other brands to compare accuracy and reliability.hope it helps.

Ammo has a lot to do with it. I have trouble with the Winchester Expert in 22/45. I find that the round nosed copper washed bullets work best for me.
