Ruger Mk1 Target Model

Some years ago,I bought a used Ruger Mk1 "Target Model" .22lr. This gun had a 6'' barrel,blued,black plastic grip panels. It also came with a wood fore-end and wood grip panels in a compartmented box(heavy cardboard). It was very accurate(second only to my Colt Woodsman). I paid $50 for it in the early '70s and traded it for a Marlin 1894 in .44mag. I have searched for this model on the web recently and can't find it anywhere. Did I have something special? Maybe a custom?

I am thinking it must have been a custom. I am no expert on them but I have never seen one with the fore end.
I have the same model that is probably about the same age.

Sounds like it to me too. I lucked out two years ago and bought my wife a Ruger MK I that came in it's original box with papers and instruction manual. It's the "Target" version too and in excellent shape. However, her's didn't come with anything wooden. It's darn accurate too.

HOWEVER...I HATE CLEAN-UP TIME :banghead: So, I end up doing more target practice with my Taurus PT92B 9 mm. Not as accurate as my MK III but a heck of alot easier to clean up after the range session's over.

Sounds more like a Browning Medalist from the 6" instead of 6 7/8" barrel, the wood foreend, and the compartmented box.
