Does anyone know if a MKIII barrel from a polymer 22/45 model will swap with a different MKIII that has the metal frame?

I want one of the new threaded barrels to use with a supressor during practice. The problem is that I like the balance of the all metal pistol much better. So far in the stores and in the catalogue, I only see the threaded barrell available on the Polymer MKIII.

I suspect the answer is NO, but I am not sure so I asked!

Just a point of order
on the MK series, the barrel group is the 'gun' of the pistol, not the grip/frame.
I believe that both the poly lower and the metal use the same attachment system.

Yes, but it isn't a straight swap.

One or the other (can't remember which) is peened for a tighter fit onto the frame. So you might have to undo that or shim something up to do a swap.

And a reminder, for shipping purposes the barrel/receiver is the "gun" according to the BATFEIEIO, so if you obtain the upper from someone else it may have to go through a FFL.

Also, if you just want to put a threaded-front upper, a company called "tactical solutions" (snerk!) makes nice replacement uppers, and there is at least one company that makes an integrally suppressed upper.

Seen the suppressed MkIII reciever, I think there was a story about the originally design was attempted to, or was sold to the army for SF to quite dogs etc.

never shot one, but they sure seem nice, And for the life of me I can't remember what it's called.

Like bigfatdave said, it can be done but the odds of the two fitting is slim. The polymer frame (22/45's) are the ones that have the barrel peened to tighten the fit. I looked at one a while back that someone wanted to do that swap. What I found that the 2 would not fully engage the front hook/mount and have the rear pin fit. Once the receiver was back for the rear pin, the fit was very loose. Some do work with little to no fitting but it's easier going from a steel frame gun to the polymer. But in any case it will more than likely require fitting. Best if you can check the fit before you buy.
