Got this used, passed on from a late relative. The only information regarding the correct ammo is stamped into the frame as ".22 Cal". No mention of whether it is to be .22 LR or .22 Magnums. The cylinder certainly looks long enough to accomodate the magnum cartridge. I ran a box of LR's through it yesterday, it was fine. Is it safe to handle .22 mags? Thank you.

+1

The ones that also shoot .22 WRM / .22 Mag come with two cylinders.

One is chambered for .22RF, and the other is chambered for .22 WRM.

Sound's like you must have the .22RF cylinder, or your cases would be badly swelled and looking like pregnant guppy's.

In addition, the 22LR cylinder is fluted. The magnum cylinder is not.

Yes it does!!

I did not scroll down that far!

Nobody ever said you had to know how to holster a gun to sell it on Gunbroker though!! :D

My dad owns a 3 screw he bought many many years ago,
I think he said he paid $99 for it NIB. Convertible model.
If I'm not mistaken the .22 Mags won't fit in the chambers,
Diameter that is.

Not always... Some Single Sixes came with both cylinders fluted.
I stand corrected. Thank you, weblance. Mine came with the magnum unfluted. However it is about 20 years old, now that I think about it. I apologize for giving out incorrect information.

if it is a true 22lr cylinder, a 22 mag round will not fit in the chamber.

Howdy

Look inside the chambers.

The 22 Rimfire family of 22 Short, 22 Long, and 22 Long Rifle cartridges use a heeled bullet. The bullet is the same diameter as the outside diameter of the brass. So the chambers of the 22 LR Single Six are bored straight through with just one diameter for their length.

22 Magnums are just like any other modern cartridge, the bullet is the same diameter as the inside diameter of the brass. So there is a step in the chamber for the larger diameter of the brass and the smaller diameter of the bullet.

The magnum cylinder will show a step in each chamber.
