I was killing some time at our local gun store yesterday when I happened upon a NIB Ruger No.1 .30-06 Centennial model rifle. I have a No. 1 in a laminated stainless .405 already and do not have a .30-06 of any kind in my collection yet. I put it on layaway, and wanted to get some opinons from anyone out there who has one or has shot a No.1 in the .30-06. I am buying the rifle to use as I dont believe such a fine looking rifle should be relgated to display duties. I paid $1025.00 for the gun, and wondering if I jumped to soon and overpaid?

If you wanted it, then you didn't over pay.
Remember that if that rifle is new in the box, it was sold as a mint collectors example of a Number 1.
I am not going to tell you to not fire the rifle, you own it, do what you want.
Be aware that shooting a rifle such as yours will reduce the monetary value should you decide to sell it down the road.

Now, if you do decide to shoot the rifle, you may find a front forend hanger modification and glass bedding may dramtically improve the shooting qualities of the rifle.

Ditto to Onmilo's comment about the hanger mod. The rifle won't shoot worth beans without it. I'm stilled pi$$ed at Ruger for not doing it right.
