30-06 rifle of choice?

I have an x-bolt stainless and a new fn mod 70 fwt.Both are really good rifle.I've heard good think about the sako but here in canada they are really expensive.

Winchester Model 70 Featherweight. FWIW I would go with the .308, as it is about 8oz. lighter, otherwise I would have to agree with your decision to go with .30-06.

I have a 30.06 Mod 340. Its a decent rifle, but I also have a Win model 70 in 300WSM. Sooo, I would go for a Winchester Model 70 Extreme weather SS in 300WSM. Its short action receiver and, holding those pregant .308s, is something to behold! Not a bad shooter either. I shoot steel with it out to 200 yards using a load consisting of 26 grains of H4198 pushing a 150 grain cast gas checked flat point bullet.

Besides being a very good .30-06 with a decently long barrel, it'll open the door to easily acquiring the ability to shoot whatever caliber/cartridge you might consider in the future.

well I went to gander today and handled the x-bolt, sako, winchester, and a kimber that was in 270. of the ones I got to look over im going to have to say the nicest one (at least in my eyes) was the sako with the x-bolt coming in a close second. nothing agains the other two just somthing about the sako and x-bolt that applealed to me. the sako jumps right the the shoulder as did the browning and suprisingly to me the sako was 100 dollars cheaper than the x-bolt.(in that store anyway) so gona be shoping around for the best price at the stores I enjoy shoping in, but I think im in love with a stainless/synthetic sako 30-06.

I have a Sako TRG-S 30-06 blued steel, synthetic stock rifle which I believe is very similar to the Tikka R3. I bought it new around 1994. It is an excellent rifle which will shoot sub MOA 5 shot 100yd groups from a clean, cold barrel with most premium ammo. Also, no first shot fliers (yet).

Which model Sako were you looking at that was cheaper than an Xbolt? Are you sure it wasn't a Tikka? Or was it in the .338 Federal cartridge that Sako has discontinued? If so, you're not going to get that price on a 30-06.

Probably the Sako A7. I believe most of us were referring to the Sako 85 which retails for twice as much as the other guns. The A7 is probably a good gun too but based on the Sako 75 action, only available in synth. stocks and uses a factory supplied weaver scope base. They carry Sako's accuracy guarantee and fall between a Tikka and Sako 85 in price. A lot of people prefer the Tikka T3 to the A7.

it must not have been the one every one was thinking about... it looked a lot like the tikka... maybe thats why it was cheaper then the browning.

im not sure now I will have to go back and look some more.

This is a 1950s FN Mauser in 30-06. Top of the line design made by the best in the business at the time. Got it for $200 in a low end pawn shop.
