What are the pros and cons of these two pistols in .45 decocker-only? Will they both use the same mags?

Thanks,
Steve

Good pistols for the money. Both can use the same mags. To me de-cocker only was the way to go with those pistols. I liked my P97, but I got the 1911 bug. :uhoh:

The P97 is less "blocky" than the P90, and the ergonomics of the former's polymer frame are significantly better for most shooters than the latter's older-style frame. Both can use the same magazines (be aware that the P90 originally came out with a 7-round magazine: the 8-round magazine was introduced with the P97. Both mags will fit and function in either gun, but if you buy an older P90 mag, you'll probably be down a round in capacity).

The P97 is also several ounces lighter than the P90, making it easier to carry for extended periods.

Both are OK...

I owned one of each...but would prefer the P-97 for slightly smaller size....
They are reliable, accurate, durable, can withstand Plus-p useage, and inexpensive. The are not very graceful, and that LOOOOOONG trigger takes some getting used too!
However, I too prefer the 1911......

I defininately prefer the 1911, too and have several of them. My thoughts on the P97 (I have 2) is to use them for car guns. They are inexpensive, reliable, rugged, etc. I guess I'm just wondering which is better - the P97 or the P90 (haven't even held a P90). It sounds like the P97 may be the better choice.

Thanks,
Steve

I think both are good guns.

I have owned both.

I only own the P-97 now as I much prefer it to the P-90.

FWIW

I would add that both models are accurate. The 90, with Hogue grips, is a handsome handgun IMO. The 97 is more practical to carry but homely. I think Ruger didn't do well with the appearance of their polymer frames; I find them quite unattractive. But they seem to be well made and help absorb recoil.

Love the P-97

I've fired a couple boxes of PMC 230 grain ball through a friend's P97. He wanted to get into a big-bore semi-auto but Sig/Kimber/HK prices didn't agree with him (or me!)

The polymer frame models are just a hair slimmer in the grip-they feel great if you ask me.

This gun was something ridiculously priced, I think 370.00-then he got 40.00 in rebate money from Ruger.

It shoots EVERY bit as nice as my father's HK .45 USC, which cost over 7 bills.

Whilst my polymer ''conversion'' has not reached Glock levels! :p I can say that both my P95 and 97 are both great guns ,,,,, a rather ugly frame, agreed but looks matter little to me with this type of gun.

Function for me exceeds form ...... as long as it/they, do what I want and ask of them. These most assuredly do.

Plus as has been mentioned ... weight ...... I find I can carry either of these as 24/7 in the colder months ... and not feel over burdened ..... tho they are a tad ''chunky'' ..... that tho I quite like and live with ..... they come to hand nicely for me.

I had a P97, and found it to have more muzzle rise than a Daly 1911, or my S&W 457.
It was easier to control after I put a Hogue slip-on grip on it.

If the P90 fits your hand, I would go with it.
I'm a little strange, but I think the P90 is a better looking gun.
They are not pocket pistols, but either gun will probably outlast you.
They will feed rocks, are hard to break, and Ruger has excellent customer service.
