I have been thinking lately about getting my first semi-auto pistol, and I thought that I had it narrowed down to the Ruger P95. So this weekend I went to a local firing range and rented one to see how I liked it. I fired 5 rounds and every single one failed to fully eject. I called out the range master and he fired it and the same thing happened. So he took the gun apart and said that it looked like it had been 500-600 rounds since it was last cleaned, but after it was cleaned it continued to do the same thing.

I've read several forums and reviews online, and based on what I read I thought this was a good inexpensive pistol, but I'm not sure how to digest this experience. Is this a common issue with this model, and is likely to be a problem for a new or slightly used gun? Or was this more likely caused by this being just a range gun that might not have been properly maintained?

Thanks for any comments.

This is not a common issue with this model. From my experience a P95 will eat anything and ask for more. What you used was a well used and abused range gun. Nuff said. Get your own and take proper care of it and you should have no problems. Don't let this experience discourage you from getting one of the best bang for your buck guns out there.

First suspect is bad ammo.

Second suspect is a bad magazine.

My P-95 has been flawless.

My shooting buddy has a P95 that will digest anything and hit dead on what ever you point it @..... My first semi was a P94 .40 and I regret daily selling it.... Buy you one and keep it cleaned, lubed, and maintained and it will be a pleasure to own..... Ruger is a whole lot of bang for your buck (pun intended) That's my .02 cents....I'm not a gun expert, I just play one on T.V. :what:

It is a common problem with the P95. Go to Ruger Forum .com and read all about the problem and the number of people having the problem.

My P95 eats anything, runs perfect. The range gun probably just needs a new extractor or a minor tweak on the on the one already in it. Another thing if you were shooting range reloads that could be the problem too. My p95 likes factory power ammo and if you are shooting underpowered range reloads that could cause ejection problems. I also have a P97 that started to get FTEs once in a while. I pulled out the extractor which is really simple. I put just a hair more tension on it and reinstalled it. My P97 runs great again. Mark
