Ruger P95 feedback?

I picked up a P95 DC back in 2001. The only problem that I ever had out of it was when the mag springs got weak and carbon was built up really heavy around the extractor. This was enough to cause fail to feed.

I've had mine for about 5+ years and I've put at least 3K through it, now it's FTF and FTE. I just put new springs in it and it should be fine. It's my first auto and I love it.

The wife & I rented one when we were shopping for a nine for her. It was a dirty, filthy range rental that probably hadn't seen solvent or oil in a good while.

It went bang 50 times in a row, put the holes in the paper where they belonged and did everything it should. Didn't "light her fire" so to speak so we kept shopping.

If a P95 was my only handgun I would feel comfortably armed. And I've dealt with Ruger customer service. If something is wrong, they will make it right, period. Good people.

Solid, no-frills gun. They hold up to a lot of shooting and the ones I've had have been very reliable.

I got interested in the P95 pistols when a small indoor range bought a batch of them for range guns. The range owner was very impressed with them. In spite of the fact that they were minimally maintained and saw a lot of hard use, they never faltered.

Issues I've run into with the P95.
  • DA trigger reach can be an issue for people with small hands/short fingers.
  • The captive recoil springs can sometimes become "uncaptive". Ruger will deal with this issue (at least they have for me) at no charge, and it's not even an issue that disables the gun--it just complicates disassembly/reassembly a bit.
  • DA trigger pull is stiff, especially in a new gun.
  • The mag release spring is pretty strong. There were some problems with mags dropping out and Ruger went to a stronger mag-release spring which is too strong, in my opinion.
  • Accuracy is adequate but in spite of a good bit of trigger time with a variety of P95 pistols I've never been real happy with the 25yd groups I shoot with them.
Obviously nothing major. I've recommended them to family members, if that tells you anything.
