Hi. I have just purchased a Ruger P95 w/ 3 15 round clips... i received an el cheapo holster free w/ the gun... I also purchased on of these to ccw

http://www.hideyourgun.com/hideyourgun/ultra-hyde/ultra-hyde.htm

I am joining the local county reserves and will carry my p95. Can anyone recomend a nice holster for this purpose?

Also, I dont think the P95 is ugly like everyone else seems to... anyone else like the looks of them?

I love mine. I got the gun with manual safety and stainless slide, 3 15 round clips, earmuffs, holster, and a box of ammo for 300... it shoots great! I am not very experienced with shooting and i can keep a 4 to 6" pattern at 50 feet. Its very accurate and almost no kickback. I would recomend to anyone.

9mm... that is all the local police will let you carry for some unknown reason
:scrutiny: :scrutiny:

Do you have some level of discretionary permiting or something, or does Alabama only let you carry what you qualify with and Barney is only "allowing" people to use 9mm for qual?

I think he may have meant he could only carry 15 rds. It's unthinkable the police would tell people they can only carry 9mm... isn't it?

nope, in my city they only allow 9mm... i dont know about everywhere else in alabama but the standard issue for our city is beretta 9mm and i was told i had to carry a 9mm

I like the P95...Would I purchase one for myself?? No prolly not, they just dont fit me very well..

My bro has one that I use as a pattern from time to time, and it is a hoot to play with at the range

I re-read your original post. Apparently this will be a duty gun, and it's department policy. I had thought this was for a regular CCW gun.

yeah, its a duty gun... but its funny how a "regular ccw" could make you feel safer than the required duty gun

Not my intent. I was just wondering why a sherrif would give crap what a person carried for CCW. I was just trying to point out that mandating 15 rounds of 9mm was somehow less dangerous the however many rounds of some other caliber was rather ludicrous. It was just my mis-understanding that this was related to your personal CCW rather than your duty gun that led to the confusion.

P95,
I have a P95DC that I bought for my wife about 10yrs ago. It has been used as a IDPA "Loaner" gun for at least half that time. I have never known it to bobble with any of the ammo it's been fed. That includes my lead reloads and a variety of cheap factory ammo. I don't shoot the gun myself, don't care for the feel or trigger. Gotta give the devil his due, it's a hell of a rugged, reliable gun! Two of our officers carry P97s. I would guess the same holster would work for the P95. Check with your local cop shop, both nylon and leather duty rigs are available. Or you could try Galls for duty gear. Bet your local dept. has one of their catalogs laying around.

Ruger P-95

P95LOSER,

I just traded off a P-95 that I'd had for about 8 years and while it
was fat and rather clunky, it was ABSOLUTELY reliable with every load put
through it (mostly handloads). That makes up for a multitude of sins!!!

I'm afraid you are going to have a hard time hiding something as big
as a P-95 in the Ultra-Hyde unless you wear SERIOUSLY baggy pants.
Most of my concealed carry needs are handled by belly bands these days
as they are very versatile and it's easy to carry a fairly serious sidearm.
I had also bought an ALESSI HIDEOUT, inside the waistband holster
that I only used a few times and liked it very much. A beautiful piece of
leather as LOU ALLESSI is well known for,but now I don't have a gun for it.
Hope it came through that I really like the P-95. There are several
hi-cap nines that might be a little easier to pack but no better value out
there than the Ruger. (ditto the P-345)

WOW!
I just looked at that Ultra Hyde thing. I hope you aren't serious about trying to carry a P95 in that thing! Course it might make it easier to meet ladies. :)

You'll eventually end up with a lot of holsters that seem like a good idea at the time. You'll need a large storage box to keep them in. I bought a "Pager Pal" at a gunshow one time that I thought would be the ultimate concealment holster. I tried to wear the thing with one of my smaller pistols, I believe it was a P-11. Man! It looked like I had a hernia, and felt even worse!! I doubt that you'll find anything for concealment of the Ruger that will work long term, other than an OWB or a shoulder holster. Even then, a pistol as big and thick as the Ruger will be difficult to conceal. You need a backup anyway, might as well go ahead and get a smaller gun for concealment.
