My ruger p95 worked great for the last few months and few hundred rounds with no malfunctions of any kind until last time I went shooting. We were shooting cheap federal fmj from walmart

I shot around 30 shots of that federal, with several FTE and I noticed the shells were only ejecting near as far or fast as they normally do. The slide also did not lock back.

part of the way through I stripped my gun but didnt see any issues. I reassembled it and tried around 20 federal "classic" hollow points. They performed similarly to the fmj I was shooting earlier, but I also had a FTF with them. The same federal hollow points worked flawlessly for that gun in the past.

My gun may have been under lubricated, but I fear it could be something more complicated.

any ideas? Next on my agenda is clean and lube it well and try some better bullets.

The P95 should cycle the Federal ammo with no problems. An old/weak recoil spring perhaps? If all else fails, send it to Ruger. They will make it right.

best bet is to call Ruger and let them have a look at it. But first try some different ammo, if it still messes up then you can at least tell Ruger it is not the ammo that is the problem.

I was thinking it could be the recoil spring, but that seems a little early for it to go out, around 300 rounds. Guess I might have to send it in

The Last 9mm rounds that I purchased was the same walmart federal and upon me inspecting them I determined that wwb could be considered high quality compared to those. They were dirty and seemed under powered. My P95 did feed them though. If the slide is not locking back it is symptommatic of the round being under powered, but since you tried a known functional round we cant blame it on the fmjs yet. How old are your mags and are they well used? It may be time for some mag springs to solve the feeding issue. Will the rounds feed if you cycle the slide by hand? What type of lube are you using (oil or grease) I like to run grease on the frame rails of my p95 due to the large contact area. Other than the above the only thing that come to mind is the extractor. Mine will build up with carbon fast with my light reloads (lower pressure +unique powder). I will say that mine runs like a champ with wwb in the value packs and I have shot countless boxes of them before I started reloading so it would be reasonable to believe that if you had problems with some wwb ammo then somthing is going on with the gun. I not saying that wwb is the best only that it worked for me and if you have the same problem with two different brands of ammo then the gun itself may be the issue.

I would give it a good clean & lube & try again. If problems persist you might want to call Ruger.

Like Eam3clm I did notice the last time I shot some 9mm Federal Champion from Wal Mart that it seemed underpowered. I was shooting it & then shot some Remington UMC. The UMC actually had a bigger boom & more recoil.
