Ruger PC Carbine (Short Review)

I went back out with the gun yesterday, this time to a friend's house with land and the linear compensator installed. The compensator was a mild disappointment, but that's not the end of the world. I was focusing on some other testing, so the Ruger didn't get the workout I had planned, but it did a great job. At 20-30 yards it was on target and cycled well - even during a 30 round mag dump. Recoil was noticeably less this time. The brass piles up in one spot and doesn't go far. I had one stovepipe extraction again, but I am still trying to burn through my low-powered ammo. I even managed to fire one 147 grain bullet with no issues before it got dark. I still have a more extensive test planned with the heavy bullets.

I tried mine out this week. The only issue I had were failures to feed with the Lee 105 SWC, but since it was designed as a 38 revolver bullet I really can’t count that as a fault.

It’s a ton of fun to shoot.

I took the gun back out this evening as part of a larger test of 147 grain bullet performance in all my 9mm guns.

I had both round nose and flat point bullets available in 147. The Ruger gobbled up a total of 51 rounds of 147 grain without a single problem and a further 83 rounds of my leftover underpowered ammo. This time there was a single stovepipe from that batch. This puts the total number of rounds fired through this particular gun at 650.

All shots were fired at 25 yards this time both unsupported and partially supported (one elbow on the table) while standing/leaning. Accuracy was good, but since I saved the Ruger for last in the shooting lineup the groups started to open up a bit. I did manage to obliterate a 3 inch target ring with many rounds going through the bullseye. The gun is quite apparently more accurate than what I can accomplish.

I again tested trigger reset and it is stupidly - fantastically - short. I had also planned to mount a red dot to test but I ran out of time so that will have to wait. In an interesting side development I did find that a Caldwell Picatinny brass catcher will mount to the top rail with no receiver clearance issues for those interested in containing their brass.
