20180429_173303.jpg After calling and e-mailing Ruger for almost a year they finally came out with longer barrels for the 8 shot 357 redhawk. Was told several times " At this point and time we have no plans to offer the Redhawk 8 shot with longer barrels". They came out and were selling like crazy. This is the 5.5 barrel. My first 8 shot group was 1 1/2 " at 25 yards from a rest. From the factory trigger pull was 13 lbs. double action 7 lbs single action . Disassemled the action , changed one spring and polished all the trigger parts using only a piece of granite and 1000 grit sandpaper. Double action dropped to 9 lbs , single action dropped to 4 lbs. Bought the extended firing pin just in case , but haven't had a misfire yet. It's heavy but recoil is very light with 357 loads. With 38 it's like shooting 22 rim fire. Nice adjustable sights . Cut for moonclips, comes with 3. Great gun , joy to shoot. I added the Eagle grips and modified to fit my hand. Watched Jerry Miculek ( the god of revolver shooting) video on revovler grip and he keep saying to grip as high as possible and that it would feel strange at first. It did . Quickly got used to it. God bless Bill Ruger . 20180303_115426.jpg

Ive been on the lookout for my grail gun- a vintage 7.5" .357 Redhawk- for years, but they are harder to find than albino unicorns.

I'm debating whether to hold out for an even longer new .357 Redhawk, but the 5.5" isn't bad......I may have to grab one of these! Thanks for the writeup!

I'm not crazy about the sights or the MIM parts.....but I do like the 8-shot unfluted cylinder and moon clips.:)

I would prefer a 7.5" bbl also. I would also prefer a full length under lug. If you can talk Ruger into it I'll buy one .But that's the longest offered , for now at least. Its really neat how the gun comes apart. Definitely some big brain people involved there. That grip is before I altered it . I'll get an after photo up later .

Are those trigger weights about normal for a Redhawk that's been properly worn in/tuned up?

If that's pretty par for the course, I may be looking for a Redhawk to replace a hunting revolver I shouldn't have sold.

It will interesting to see now that they are making the 8-shot Redhawk with useful barrel lengths if it will make any inroads into USPSA revolver division. The un-fluted cylinder is not going to help that but it will be interesting to see. Wonder if Ruger will make a 9mm versions. I am sure TK or similar would convert it to 9mm if you asked.

OP you need to get a stack of moonclips and head for you local USPSA match and give it a go. USPSA with a revolver is the most fun thing I have done with a revolver.

That's my first Redhawk so don't really know what is par. I'm sure others here would know. Only took me an hour. Sandpaper only , no files . Spring kit was $15.95, went straight to the lightest spring. DA is very smooth now.

Not much selection on holsters right now . Still looking. You are absolutely right about usefull barrel lengths. Saw plenty of the snubby versions for sale used . The 5.5 barrel versions aren't even making it to the case in gun shops. Me and a guy from work ordered ours .
