Ruger is apparently investigating the potential of building a production facility in Rockingham County North Carolina. They conducted an interview process to see if the Triad area could provide a competent skill level work force. A work force of 500 to 700 personnel is estimated requirement for the proposed facility.

IIRC, from my days at Pope AFB (many moons ago), there's lots of skilled labor/tech labor available in the Raleigh/Winston-Salem I-85/I-40 corridor. And that area (Rockingham County) along the NC/VA border is nice territory to live in, easily able to attract new residents. Rural living with easy access to urban amenities, and a job in the gun industry? Sign me the heck up. (Can they wait 1 1/2 years until I retire from the AF?)

Hangingrock, is this a possible expansion of Ruger, or a relocation? Perhaps a final divorce from Conn.?

Ruger should look twice.
NC is getting less friendly to guns every day.
Too many Yankees moving in.

AFS
so long as the politicians stick to their guns, (yup, a pun) NC is getting more and more friendly to guns.

i thought we were past the yanks thing.

Umm...it's actually going more pro-gun in recent years. A year or so ago our castle doctrine was made much stronger to include your home, vehicle, and "any place you can legally be" (that's how it was worded to me). Also, right now legislation (HB 937), is being worked on to allow restaurant carry for concealed carry holders and allow concealed carry holders to have a gun locked in their vehicle on college campuses. It has a few other pro-gun features as well. It passed the house, and recently was made better in the senate (removal of old jim crowe law where sheriff's can deny handgun permits as they deemed necessary) and past there and is now being sent back to the house for a vote on the amendments made in the senate.

This on top of the fact that it's a very good state for open carry if that's your thing. You can check the NC forum on opencarry.org if you want to see the open carry stories (or lack there of). Seeing guns (at least where I'm at in eastern NC) is a normal everyday occurrence.

I'm a long way from Rockingham but where I am everyone Carries. And all my new neighbors are former Floridians so we must be doing something right. Save for the new Italian neighbor, lol. Talk about weird.
Anyway, anytime new jobs come in its welcome. Although companies usually bring 3/4 of their employees with them. Just like Chiquita did in Charlotte. I just hope quality doesn't go down with the move

My information came from a local Fox TV news affiliate. That's all I know.

There is a tendency to dwell on the negative concerning North Carolina laws in regards to firearms related issues.

Since I’ve relocated to NC there have been positive changes but there are still some negative issues. The purchasing permit issued by the county of residence sheriff’s department is/was a nettlesome issue in my opinion. I personally never experienced a problem with issuance but it was a matter of inconvenience. The NC-CHP circumvents that issue.

Changes occur but at a pace that sometimes is likened to pulling teeth out of a chicken.

That's putting it mildly, although it sounds like a lot of possible changes for the good are on the horizon?

I see Assaulted: Civil Rights Under Fire is just up the road from me - a limited engagement in a NC theatre.

I'd like to see the movie, and if I miss it at its current run, I don't know when I'll get another chance since it's a small budget documentary?

Only thing that keeps me from traveling to NC to see it, is as I understand NC CC laws, you cannot CC anywhere that you pay admission.

I'm understandably leery about leaving my self undefended in a gun free zone.

HB 937 Makes it so that you can carry in places that charge admission and places that serve alcohol. It also gets rid of the pistol purchase permits, and allows for guns to be in vehicles on educational property. It has already passed the house and senate in its original form, but has to go back through the house because the senate amended the educational property to include all campuses and not just college campuses like originally introduced. We are definitely making strides in the right direction.

Airforce Shooter, Three of the most gun friendly states in the country are "yankee States". Do a little research.
By the way isn't Airforce shooter kind of an oxymoron?

Yep, that is one of the weird laws associated with CC here currently. However, the HB 937 legislation I mentioned in a previous post, was recently amended to allow CC in places that require admission. Pretty much, HB937 (if it passes), will get rid of a lot of those weird restrictions on CC. It will pretty much make CC legal just about anywhere except for government buildings and businesses where a "no gun" sign is posted.

If you're in NC, definitely start contacting your reps. Get this legislation passed!

They're definitely coming here. I live one town over. My Mother worked in the building they acquired when it was a textile mill back in the mid 90's. 220,000 square foot facility and 54 acres of land. Ruger is only bringing in 20 employees. They're going to hire between 280 and 480 new employees locally. I have a little experience with CNC machines. I'm drafting a resume and crossing my fingers!
