Ruger Security-six grip ?

I recently acquired a Ruger Security-Six but I am not happy with the factory grips :( Shooting stiff reloads with 158gr and 180 .357mag. made recovery difficult. I would like a grip that would not hinder concealment, I do not want to go with the Hogue rubber(to grippy) The Pachmayr compact looks like a option ? Has anyone gone down this road ? and where did you wind up ? Here's the gun;

Many years ago I had a stable of Ruger SS .357 mag's Dam still kicking myself for selling them the best grip I ever found was the Mustang grips, this was back in the 1970-80's. I also see that you have a Dillon Reloader.... Which one? I have a XL-650 and love it!!!!!!!!

Most of mine wear a modified Craig Spegel grip (minus finger grooves, more rounded at the lower edges. Have been using that basic pattern CCW for 25 yrs+ now. Not sure if he offers them anymore but I like them best.

As an alternative I sometimes use Hogue Monogrips in NYLON. They are a bit long but fit me pretty well. Good gripping surface, no drag or printing, work for me. Got my last ones from Brownell's a couple of years ago; cost around $18 or so.
 
Mine wears a hogue rubber grip and it works great concealed. I don't see the problem. If you don't like rubber, they offer the same grip in many different woods for a bit more. I like the shape of it, fits me like a glove and points natural, and the fact that my middle finger doesn't get clobbered by the trigger guard with heavy loads.
 
Mine wore Pachmayr Presentation grips for years. I usually really like Hogue grips but for some reason there was a noticeable gap between the frame and the grips.

Like Harry suggested, CDNN has several different rubber grips for the Security Six.

These might be bigger than what you have in mind but i really liked them on my Security Six

My "house" Sec Six wears Uncle Mike/Niles grips (they're the same). My carry one wears stock grips with a Tyler Tgrip.
You'll probably find that the stock grips do not allow for use of a speedloader. I use speed strips so I don't care.

Edit: Here's what the Niles/UM look like. They are made of a fairly hard rubber and do not catch on clothes too much. They are really comfortable. As you can see they were also sold by Ruger as an option. (This gun is owned by Slick6)

I have a Service Six and got the Pachmayr's for it. I decided to go with Tyler's and the Pachmayr's ended up in my parts box. The Pachmayr's are really good for shooting heavy loads.

Grippers are great but there is a very close copy that is a little smaller which is also nice . I have a pair but bought them used and am not sure who makes them. When buying Security Six grips be careful as there are 2 sizes. Both ate close but they are different enough to be a problem. At the moment I have a set of Jay Scott on mine (I like the feel). The gun is of the newer variety and the grips are for the older frame. They are slightly too big for the grip and will have to "reduce" them for proper fit which I have not done yet as they are workable just don't look quite right.
 
My Security Six has worn Pachmayr's open back grips for 20+ years. They are as comfortable a revolver grip as you could ever want.
 
The hogues are great for rapid fire and give you enormous stability, but like any other "grippy" rubber stocks they can catch on shirts if you have to draw from deep concealment. The wood stocks are thin, but if you wrap a pinky underneath you can stabilize the revolver pretty well. I've been practicing with the factory stocks the last few range trips and they're not nearly as annoying now as they were when I first tried them.

Any gun with a serial number pre-fix of 150-, and the earlier ones with a 151-prefix have the different style grip. grips for these older models can be found, but the ones at CDNN, etc. are for the newer style grips.
 
Another vote for the pachmyar grips. I love mine, points better for me than any other pistol I've handled.

My security six and both my service six's have hogue grips they fit my hand better than the factory grips and the old herrets that I used for years. rugerman

the three digit prefix # on my revolver is 159-xxxxx, the grips I am thinking of getting are these; http://www.cdnninvestments.com/woodsecsixse.html Will they work :confused: I realize they may not fit the concealment criteria, but they would do for now ?

I went with midway and got Hogue Fancy Hardwood Grips with Top Finger Groove Ruger Security Six Oversize Checkered Lamo Camo.
 
Tyler Adapter + Velcro

You cab buy Tyler Adaptor, a metal piece that fits on the forward side of the old grips, gives you more to hang on to and will keep the neat look of the wooden ones. http://www.t-grips.com/

I use these on my Colt Detective plus I put a strip of velcro adhesive strip on back of hilt - results in rock firm hand grip. I read someone else uses sandpaper adhesive strip. Get the velcro at any chain drug store, household items.

I've heard these old cowboy-style grips - especially on snubs - fit a one-handed SA shooting style that used to be the norm, so - like an SA revolver - the gun would roll up after each shot, placing it in perfect position for the next manual hammer-cock, and, when the gun settled back into the sight line, a quick SA trigger pull and you were all set. Don't know it that's true, or true beyond the snubs, but it is logical. Try SA firing one-hand with your present grip as an experiment.
 
Here's a old Speed-Six that I put Tyler T-Grips on and I dropped a spurless hammer in it. One fine shooter.

Pachmayr Presentation on mine for 20+ years. Much much better fit for my hands than stock, but probably not the right call for concealed carry. A mute point for me as that particular weapon has always been used for off body or OC.

Hi folks, I received a set of grips from CDNN they're a bit large but I'm fine with that, I did some sanding and fitting on them and applied the the first coat of teak oil.

I also found a set of NIB Pachmayr presentation grips at a pawn shop for $10. These should keep me happy for awhile. Thanks again jj
