Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of getting a nice, stainless 2 3/4" Security Six. In looking at various pix on the net, I've noticed that the right side (not the side with the cylinder release) recoil shield is scalloped on some, and left in a half domed shape on others.

Has anyone else noticed this? Does a certain date of manufacture or serial number range have a scalloped out vs. half domed recoil shield?

Thanks

The solid shield is the earlier version. IIRC, the change was made around 1980 (could be mis-remembering). I think Ruger billed it as a weight benefit, but I think they also regarded it as making the right side more similar to the left in style. I don't believe that the change was associated with any specific serial number series, and was phased in as they used up existing finished frames on hand.
