Does Ruger still offer service/parts for the Security Six series?

To paraphrase, they basically say that they'll do what they can but parts are limited. I'm pretty sure they're not making brand-new parts for them, based on the statement.

I read it a few months ago.

My wife owns a Security Six from the 80's and I own a GP100 from a couple of years ago. The Six is a 4" barrel, and the GP is a 6" with the full lug. Personally, I like the GP more. The longer sight radius and heavier gun make accuracy and recoil management better. The GP came with a less fun trigger, but lots of use and dry firing seemed to smooth things out, and it seems pretty good now.

One of the things I liked on the old Rugers is when I bought them and got them home. I always liked the small wood grips and could shoot .38spc out of them with no problem. But when I put in the magnum stuff, I could barely hold onto the gun! Still, I loved the look of those skinny grips.

There's a joke that said Bill Ruger had only one tree, and he's still making grips from it. I don't know why he designed the Security-Six, first with the weird grip angle, then with the right angle, but he stayed with the skinny grips. I've heard that some people have kept the skinny grips and think they're fine. I'm not one of them, but I still think they're cool.

I was extremely lucky and ran across a Liberty marked police service six 4" .38 special with perfect blueing and in excellent condition. It appears to have been fired only a few times in its life and kept in a pouch in a safe since new. When I asked my friend what he wanted for it I almost fell over when he told me $150. I couldnt get to the ATM fast enough to get the cash to give him . Needless to say Im sure that was a smoking deal that Ill NEVER run across again on another.

I wouldn't be able to live with myself. I'd get him a nice bottle of wine and if he's a good friend, I'd tuck another hundred in with it.

My first center fire hadgun was a Security Six back in 1977. Back then i wanted to shoot other guns and had limited means so I traded it for something else. Since then I have longed to have it back. It was a 6" blued model. Oddly, I just picked up my second one today. A minty blued 6" version. It set me back $500.00.

For packing all day I prefer the service grips.

My 4" Security Six weighs 38 ounces with the Pachmayr grips and 34 with service grips.

Slight thread hijack...
I just bought a 1983 Security Six ( 2.75in stainless ) to go along with 2 others
I have.
Back in the day, I bought a couple of adjustable hammer struts and spring kits
( don't remember from where ) and would like to find another vs. machining
one. Asked on the gunsmithing section and got one suggestion that didn't
pan out....any ideas?
Also Ruger no longer has sights avail, any suggestions on those.

What's your definition of a good bottle of wine? I guess another way to phrase it would be, does a good bottle of wine have a twist off cap?

They will work on it if you need to send it in.

Frankly, one that has survived this long is unlikely to need to ever be "sent back."
