Single six hinter convertible

I have an all stainless, 46oz, single six hunter convertible.

I hate to admit this but, at first, I was very critical of this gun. It was beautiful, well made, but I found the grip to be impossibly small for my hands. As a result, I couldn't seem to get the gun to shoot accurately.

I literally set the gun aside for two years, but I couldn't bring myself to sell it (for many of the reasons that you mentioned). A few months ago, I took it out and was determined to find a way to grip the gun that worked for me. I suceeded, and the gun has been a very accurate gun since then.

I would definitely recommend the single six line of guns. They are flexible, durable, reliable, safe to handle, and accurate. I'm so glad that I didn't sell it.

I've got four and it's nowhere near enough. My most-used sixgun is this Old Model that I retrofitted with an XR3 grip frame and had CLC stock it in fancy claro walnut.

Another is this .32H&R Bisley Single Six with fancy black walnut:

Like those Single Six myself. Had a Ruger Single Six years ago sold it to buy something else, wished I hadn't because it was a fun plinker that worked with a variety of ammunition. I recently picked up a Single Six Hunter 7 1/2" stainless 22/ 22 Win Mag. Mostly went with this because I liked the finer adjustable sights.

Cajun, I'm glad you addressed the appearance, because that factors huge in my gun buying decisions as shallow as that may be.

Nothing wrong with that. Not many of us really "need" a gun, especially one like this. You buy it because you want it, and the way it looks has a lot to do with why we want it.

Besides, it's as good a reason to pick one over the other as any. :D

I'm on my fourth one. I always buy the convertable. I like the fixed sights better than the adjustable sight. The only drawback is reloading, because it's time consuming.

Thanks JimmieJoBobJr. That's a LOT cheaper then having custom grips made.
I have big hands, and pick up a stainless one on the 15th. Heard bad things about barrel
diameter a long time ago. Apparently, due to the 22 mag. I hope that has been solved.

The entire gun is beautiful. Might wrap the grips to make them fit my hands with some kind of tape, like Tennis racquet tape...
If it doesn't shoot, I'll ask JRH advanced gunsmithing to put bigger grips on it, and, a new barrel, probably pac nor.

Darn some pretty Sixes in this thread!
I have a circa 1956 Single Six. It's seen some use and abuse over the years. At one point, someone took a grinder to the hammer, the cylinder has been parkerized, the grip frame painted, and the rest has about 5 different types of bluing (cold and hot). For all that, I like how it looks and it still shoots better than most can hold it.:)

I've had Single Six in .22/.22 Mag for about 30 years. It was a constant companion in my late teens roaming the mountains of Montana on foot, horseback, and on motorcycles. Has some wear and doesn't get near as much use now but is as accurate as ever. About as 'slick' an action as any gun I own!

I also have one in .32 H&R Magnum I inherited from my father. He'd only put 6 rounds through the gun. I have the original box with all that came with the gun as well as the original box of ammo.

Here's a picture of the .22...

Single six

I have two both with 6.5 barrels. One is blued (born 1980) and the other stainless(born 2001). Only have one mag clyinder (blued), the stainless clyinder was lost by previous owner. Not that it matters as I only shoot 22LR. I have considered selling Blue, any thoughts, as to why I should keep it......

JimmieJoBobJr:
I've used my 22's to train for big guns. It REALLY helps if the grips fit correctly. While not critical with a 22lr, it becomes huge with anything over 44 magnum.

To reiterate: Redhawk grips will fit the new model single six .22 cal.
I'm not seeing that. Do you possibly mean Blackhawk grips? If not, would you please post a photo of your Single Six.
BTW: welcome to the forums:)

Greg

I have the 50th year Single Six...4-5/8" barrel, fixed sights, blue finish, .22LR & .22Mag cylinders.

WAAAAAAAAAAAYYY up high on the "Fun Gun" list..could double as an emergency "meat getter" gun, too

I picked up a Super Single Six with the 5.5 in barrel a few years ago and this is what I think of it...I LOVE IT and would never part with it.

It shoots all the 22 ammo I know about and with the 22 mag cylinder its like carrying a 22 rifle on your hip...the 22mag can really reach out there.

It's a great plinking, hunting and target gun. Mine is very accurate and they are built like a tank, very high quality.

I'm sure you will really enjoy it.

I want one because......It was the first gun I ever fired at 6 years old.
