Hey folks, would you please help me? I'm looking for overall dimensions for the above 3 models. I'm not so concerned with length, but I AM looking to learn the overall height and width dimensions to determine suitability for pocket carry (in a pocket holster) for these guns in normal Blue Jeans. I checked the Ruger website and the Search function of THR and unless I'm an idiot, haven't found what I'm looking for. I would like to know at least 2 of the dimensions; essentially the box-size necessary to contain these 3 revolvers. Height (from butt to the top of the sights), and thickness across the cylinder.
Thank you for your help.

The only one that would work (as far as size) is the SP 101. The others are too big.
Even the SP 101 is (IMHO) too heavy for pocket carry.

I have an SP 101 (3.06" barrel). It will fit in a jeans pocket if you wear them relatively loose...not the best gun if that's how you want to carry though.

I do pocket carry most often. I carry a Taurus 85 Ultra-Lite which weighs just about half as much as an SP 101.

The Redhawk is built on a large frame, the GP-100 is built on the medium frame, and the SP-101 is built on the small frame. The SP-101 is the only one somewhat suitable for pocket carry, but for revolvers in the class size it's quite heavy. It's more suited as a belt pistol meaning it rides better in a holster on the belt.

I appreciate your suggestions, really I do; but I really want hard numbers please. Thank you. For example, put your GP100, SP101, and Redhawk squarely in the corner of a drawer, and then measure the dimensions; and give me their thickness too. Thanks.

Go to www.ruger.com If you click on specifications for each model it will give overall length and weight of the different models with different barrel lengths. Not all you are looking for but that is all I can find.

Sorry, after reading your post more carefully I realize you've already done this.

I think the SP101 carries fine in a pocket. Just make sure you have a belt on. Size wise, even though the SP101 looks bigger than a J-frame, when you look at them side by side, there isn't that much difference in size between them. Get a Mika pocket holster. After reading the many "the SP101 is too heavy for a pocket" comments, and you will find many of them, I was pleasantly surprised to find that at least in my opinion, it doesn't feel bad in a pocket at all. Yes, a light weight would be better in a pocket weight wise, but I don't think you'll find a better small revolver quality of build and durability wise than the SP101. I like my 642 for pocket carry, but if I knew I would need one revolver that would have to perform, and last over the long run, I'd happily select the SP101.
