Wanted to know if any of you would recommend any wood grips for the sp101. I'm looking into them, but dont know much about them. Pics would be great also!

I bought a beautiful pair of "new old stock" Secret Service rosewood checkered grips that were made by Eagle for my SP101. The price seemed too good to refuse at the time.

While they are somewhat substantial in size and very attractive, my hands are just a bit too small to comfortably hold the gun (.357). So, I took them off, put them in a drawer and now use a Pachymar Compac grip instead. A somewhat expensive lesson learned.
 
I'm going to get a set of Badger grips for mine one of these days. Thing is, the factory grips are very, very good IMO and I'd hate to buy the grips and then go back to factory goodyears.
 
I love the factory grips...great for shooting and carry...if you want to dress them up you can put wood inserts in them....thee's a guy on ebay who sells them in different colors for 22 bucks...I also held the crimson trace laser for the SP and I have to say...although I don't feel the need for a laser on mine, the grip is pretty perfect in the hand...mine anyway.
 
I bought the Hogue rubber monogrips to 'test' the fit on my 4" .32M SP101 before ordering the same grip in pao ferro. Sadly, even though I love wood, the rubber grips are fine - and I can't see me letting go of that much moola anytime soon. Anyone have a picture of Hogue wood monogrips on an SP101?

I know you asked about wood grips, but I also ended up using the Pachmayr Compac grips and am very pleased with them. Are you interested in wood for their looks or because wood grips don't "grab" at your cover garment? If the latter, you should look at the Compac grips -- they don't grab at your clothes.
 
I've got the Hogue and Pachmayr grips, and like the stock SP101 grips the best.
Everyone is different, and grip shape and size needs to fit you, the user. I have found by trial and error that the factory rubber grip makes the gun point quite naturally for me, and enhances comfort when shooting full power .357 loads, and does so considerably better than the Hogue or Pachmayr offerings. I haven't tried the Trausch grips for the SP101, so can't comment on those.

I have never posted a picture before, and I have no idea how to resize it. So, this may be way too large. It is from a picture cd a friend created for me of my firearms for insurance purposes.

Try www.hogueauction.com . They sell grips with small imperfections cheap. Not many on there now, but if you watch, you'll find something you like. May take a month or two. My 9mm SP101 3 inch wears a set of these factory seconds. You have to look real close (and almost have to be told) to see the flaw. If I'm not mistaken, I paid somewhere around $40 for the grips. An exceptional deal.

Exactly what I did for my 3 inch .357 SP101. My 9mm came with Hogue rubber grips and no factory grips, so I decided to try something other than factory. I left my .357 exactly as I bought it, but substituted wood inserts for the plastic ones (the Ruger factory wood inserts for the 3 inch GP00 only will fit the SP101s). Apparently the 3 inch GP100s have a different grip from the 4 inch barreled guns.
