I am now carrying a taurus model 85.
I also have a RG 38 I keep in my truck.
I also own a GP100 W/6 barrel too big to carry
I am thinking of buying a Ruger SP101 in 357 .
How would it carry compared to my mod 85 taurus.
I am also considering buying a LCP at the end of the year for pocket carry.
Also want a smaller 9 than my P95 for carry

I've got an 85 Ultra Lite. I can pocket it. My SP101 is a belt gun, IWB, too heavy for a pocket. I also carry the little Ultra Lite as a back up in an Uncle Mike's ankle holster. There are plenty of good holsters for the M85, anything a Smith J frame will fit in. The steel 85 is a bit heavier than the UL version, so YMMV, but the ONLY carry for the SP101 that works for me is IWB.

I vote for the SP101.

My new favorite carry rig for it:

AKJ Concealco IWB.

Did you really just ask that question in the revolver subforum and expect an objective result?

I voted for the SP101. You'll end up getting a pocket carry gun anyway. But the 3"Sp101 is the most versatile gun you can buy.
Oh, and I'll give a HUGE +1 to ranting redneck. I've been using a Concealco holster for my SP101 for about a year and a half now and I LOVE it. Best value on the holster market. Bar none!!
(And i have a holster for my Sig from AKJ concealco that i've been using for 2 years now.)

I'd get a S&W j-frame or a Glock Sub-Compact. Theyare just about the same height & length.

I also recently purchased a Ruger SP101 with the 3.06" barrel. I carry this either IWB or OWB (both Don Hume holsters).
Coincidently, my (previously) most carried firearm was a Taurus 85 Multi-Alloy (aluminum/titanium with a spurred hammer). The 85 is carried in a Mikas pocket holster. I also have a Galco pocket holster, but I prefer the Mikas.
The alloy 85's (aluminum or titanium) carry quite well in a pocket. As far as the spurred (exposed) hammer, the Mikas does a better job in enclosing it (draws easier...less chance of the hammer snagging the pocket).
My latest purchase has been a Taurus 851 (shrouded DA/SA hammer). This one rides in my Mikas holster too.

BTW, the 85's and the SP101 use the same speed loaders...so, you carry the SP101 on your hip, the Taurus in your pocket (New York reload) and a speedloader with .38 +P's just in case!

I have a M85UL and it is my primary small gun. If I were to add a SP101 if would be a 3" barreled gun that I would carry on the trail. I voted for a RAMI, as I think thinner is better for a CCW and I find I shoot semi's better when shooting quickly.

Of the firearms mentioned, SP101, hands down, no contest. But, you don't have a knife? Mercy, get yourself a knife! I voted "knife" in the poll. A knife is a basic piece of emergency equipment. I could live without firearms, but, without a blade? NO!

I used to have a Taurus 85. Don't any more.

Once you get the SP101, you'll sell the Taurus. No need for it. True, the SP is a bit heavier. But it feels like a real gun in your hand, compared to the 85. When I carry mine, it's in a light Bianchi IWB with hammer snap, or in a Hume horizontal springer shoulder rig. Don't even know it's hiding under my arm pit.

I think I will buy a CW9 first
Next month a SP101
then a x mass an LCP

I just got my check from the IRS 1800

The SP101 is much better for carrying on your belt than in your pocket, but it is a shooter's gun. In other words, unlike most snubnose revolvers that are meant to be carried a lot and shot a little, this is actually pleasant to shoot, at least with .38 Specials or "mild magnums," as I like to call them.
