Ruger made good on their promise to replace the firearm. It arrived yesterday. They also reimbursed me for the new transfer fee.

New gun looks fine. Stiff and lots of MIM parts.

Why transfer fee? Legally they can ship repaired or replaced firearms directly to you,at least in most states. Is there a local rule? FedEx delivered a brand new 1911 to my door a few weeks ago after the manufacturer replaced the one I sent them under warranty.

Transfer fee because it was a different serialized gun. If it was the same gun getting repaired they could send the same one back to me.

No theory. Just told me it was not repairable and said they were replacing it.

I Doubt federal will give me anything. I didn't ask....and I don't care much about getting anything from them.

Glad it worked out well and no injuries.
Gun companies are some of the best manufacturers and customer service people.

Analogkid,

You should have asked Ruger to send you a Wiley Capp SP101...

Who knows, they may do it since you were at risk in the Kaboom.

It was pretty scary.

I had to get bbq afterwards to settle me down.
That revolver did an admirable job in protecting you as it disintegrated in your hands. Kudos to the Ruger engineers as well as their customer service. I had no doubt they would step up regardless of their examination results. I doubt Ruger will provide any test or inspection results with the replacement revolver, but will include a standard attorney approved cover letter outlining that they do not warranty anything that they sell, but are sending a replacement revolver as a thank you for being a Ruger Customer.

As for Federal, its extremely likely that all the rounds returned to them tested OK. An overchange from a large volume commercial manufacturer is not that common. They should send you a coupon for replacement ammunition for the ones that you send to them at their request, but I would not expect a detailed analysis from them other than a cover letter.

Very glad you were unharmed in this process and that the ordeal is coming to a satisfactory conclusion.

Best,

Don

I still don't get it..federal law allows exactly that. Different serial number, but same make/model, is fine as long as the manufacturer is returning 1 for 1 a gun you sent them.

As I said, FedEx delivered a brand new 1911 straight to my door a few weeks ago in a less dramatic (no kabom) but similar (manufacturer decided it wasn't worthwhile to repair old gun so gave me a new one...new serial and everything) situation.

So, what's the general consensus here on Federal ammo ? Was this an aberation, or is their stuff kinda sketchy these days. I ask because i have a 'few' boxes, and recently Wal-mart has had their brass-cased 9mm on price-drop, for $12.77, and I grabbed a couple extra boxes, just cuz.

Federal is a Top Tier manufacturer.

That said, errors do happen, but very rarely.

Personally I have no issue with shooting Federal Ammunition of any caliber in my firearms.
