Well as the title says I'm trying to decide whether or not to bob the hammer on my SP 101.. If I do cut it off I'll want to get rid of the single action notch on the hammer as well.

After having it for a while I just can't see any reason to keep the hammer/single action. I have other guns I can shoot targets w/& it feels like having it w/o the hammer would make it much more snag free.

I'm wondering if anyone has done this & regretted it?

i've also been thinking about going DAO on my SP101. however, if i do it, i'll buy the factory ruger DAO hammer. i'd rather do that than cut it myself. plus that will always allow you to go back if you change your mind later.

I wrestled with this idea myself and decided that I'm going to leave mine the way it is with its hammer spur. For me this is a belt gun thats carried OWB in a pancake holster so I'm not concerned with it snagging. If your going to pocket carry I'd say do it,but then again the Ruger while small is a heavy gun and IMO not a great choice for pocket carry because of this.

I bought mine new that way

It is what I like for a carry gun as it is fast and simple, especially after I have shot it a great deal and broke it in. I carry it IWB as it is too heavy for pocket to me. If you are going to use it for something other than conceal carry you may want to leave it with the full hammer.

I'm definitely buying DAO when I get the SP101 (2 1/4" barrel). I'd do as texas bulldog suggested and get another DAO hammer from Ruger.

I pocket carry a gun with the hammer spur, and have yet to snag anything when recovering it from my pocket holster. I simply reach in and cover the hammer with my thumb as I withdraw.

I didn't & don't want to give up the SA feature .

I pocket carry my DAO SP101, I really like the spurless hammer. Since this is a defensive gun to me I have no use for a light single action trigger.

Find a DAO spurless hammer. I have one and can change it out in less than 5 minutes. I know Ruger won't sell you one, but they can be found with some research.

I've been thinking about another hammer & looking for one that's DAO but have not had any luck.. I understand Ruger can provide another hammer but you have to send the gun in to them so they can properly fit the hammer..

Anyone have a non Ruger source for a DAO hammer?

IMO it's worth it to send it to Ruger and let them convert it to DAO.

If you want both take your hammer assembly out, then send it.

The only reason to bob a hammer is if you're going to pocket carry. To me,the SP101 is too big and too heavy as a pocket gun.
I do have one (3.06" barrel) and it's a great revolver...but even the 2¼" model is still too big, too heavy.

GB has one as a part in a kit right now. It's at $10. might be worth up to $50 for all the spare parts to have laying around.

type in ruger cylinder in the search box, it will show up with 4 days left

My reason to have the SP was a defensive carry gun. If I needed it, I wasn't going to be thumbing the hammer, it was gonna be pull and press the trigger. So bobbed it is. I also dropped in a 10lb hammer spring to lighten things up.

buy the bobbed hammer and install it or have it done. You maintain the factory condition "if" you ever decide to part with it and you have a professional looking hammer and you won't notice that the gun still has the internals for single action. If you change your mind you can undo what you've done. It's just the simple easy way to accomplish what you're after.

God Bless
Gideon
