Has anyone run across any press releases regarding any police/law enforcement agencies doing serious testing or eyeing of the SR-9, or better yet, having adopted them ?

Wow, nothing like shooting themselves in the foot - sales-wise that is!
You would think they would have drop-tested them a bit more instead of having pushed them out of the door like they did!

Not so bad...
The recall only affects a small portion of the guns produced, and what Ruger is doing is shipping the guns for free both ways, doing the repairs necessary, and sending your gun back with a free magazine, which I bought at about $35... so you lose your gun for about a week and make $35... can I send the rest of my guns back for repairs and get that deal?... I don't think so.
I just shipped a Smith and Wesson back to the factory for repairs, so I don't think that Ruger finding and fixing their own problem is all that bad. It's been three weeks since I mailed off the gun to S&W, and I got a letter telling me they have received it and will ship it back in 2 to 3 weeks... no freebies involved, except shipping costs.
Just for the record, the SR-9 is one of the smoothest shooting guns I've ever held in my hands. I've read people's posts that are whining about the trigger, etc. but mine's been excellent. I can't believe some of the comments I've read, and like any kind of snob, it's probably people who "only shoot XXX" or are chronic complainers. CNC machined pistols are what they are... and when they are synthetic materials, you get what you get in molding those... but my experience with SR-9's has been excellent. I'll be carrying mine concealed when it gets back, along with 2 spare clips... so I can load a box of ammo "off the hip".
It's a slender gun (which I like) and "lays up" against the body well in a speed draw holster. Unless you have "gun bearers", I don't know what else you'd ask for. It's a solid piece.

Actually I think the recall covers virtually every SR9 ever made. At least until last month.

I hope the new trigger 'group' that Ruger is going to put in the guns, will leave me with a good trigger.
The pistol has a lot of 'gadgets', but they seem to work seamlessly.
I think I could carry this for CCW when there are some night sights available for it.
Shoots pretty good, right now. I have only about 300 rounds through mine right now.
I certainly do like the very narrow grip. Fits my hand much better than any of my Glocks. It is almost on par with my High Powers and 1911's. It really does 'feel' good.
Go figure.

Internet rumor has it that the new trigger group will not be ready for the retro-fit until next month.
I have my SR9 well broke in, and the trigger has smooth out nicely. I hope the new trigger group doesn't result in a heavier trigger pull.

We have determined that some Ruger SR9 pistols manufactured between October 2007 and April 2008 can, under certain conditions, fire if dropped with their manual safeties in the "off" or "fire" position. The pistols will not fire if the manual safety is in the "on" or "safe" position.
We will retrofit all Ruger SR9 pistols starting with serial number prefix “330” (330-xxxxx) with these new parts at no charge to our customers.

maybe you're right about the volume of the recall. I was going on what one of my buddies at the gun shop said, and if the recall is from October of last year to April of this year, that could be a high volume recall... but if they're using the updated trigger groups for new manufacture, it might not be as large as you would imagine. I'm sure that they have to have surplus trigger groups to keep up with "recalls" and new manufactures at the same time... and the additional volume will probably take until mid-May to produce. That's the message from Ruger. They're eating the cost of this recall, so I'm sure they're having to feed it through their system with as little interruption as possible.
Realistically, the "problem" with the gun isn't something that makes it dangerous unless you don't keep the safety on when you carry the pistol. I know a lot of people who carry guns with decockers that are double action with the safety's off, but striker fired pistols are a little more "iffy" for a situation like that. Even after the trigger group is replaced, I'll have the safety on when carrying... it only takes an instant during the draw to thumb down the safety, and I'd rather do that than have an accidental discharge or "drop" discharge like they describe.
I'm just happy they're fixing it for free, shipping it for free, and sending me a $35 magazine for free. Now, if all the other manufacturers will do likewise, I'll have plenty of shooting supplies.

Sheer morbid curiousity makes me wonder now what type of incident(s) may have occurred that prompted this recall, or if it was something that they discovered internally?
I've owned one Ruger in my life - a P90 stainless... I had it for a few short period of time - got rid of it PDQ after having "slapped" a new magazine into it , the slide slide shut and the pistol discharged with my finger nowhere near the trigger!

I like the way my SR-9 feels and shoots and when they get all the bugs out of my gun and get the new mag it will go back to my carry weapon. Have a XD-9 service to use but prefer the Ruger for carry as it is a little thinner.

Except for a couple of Ruger 22 pistols, a MkII and a 22/45 MkIII. I haven't had a Ruger handgun for about 10 years. I bought my first Ruger revolver in 1971 and paid $101.75 for a blued 4" Security Six. I now have two Ruger 22 rifles too. I find Ruger quality to be very good.
Do you shoot at Steve's The Gun Site? You should go over on Monday night and run what ever floats your boat. Some very good shooters there. I am from Melbourne, and used to shoot up there all the time. Particularly when I lived on the Island.

Now I have had a P90 about 15 years ago. Shot very well, good trigger and accurate. My complaint was the grip was to big for my hands.
I am surprised to hear a Ruger firing like you state. They have more redundant safeties than any weapon I know. I wonder if the weapon wasn't broken.
