I looked at one of these today, it pointed well. I racked the slide and dropped the mag. and it appeared to dry fire? I thought these guns have a magazine disconnect?

The magazine "disconnect" on the SR9C might be a misnomer. There is a firing pin block that is active without a magazine inserted. In fact, I believe that they recommend that the gun NOT be dry fired without a magazine, as it can tend to damage the block.

Without the mag inserted the striker can still be released. However, it does not fly all the way forward. It is stopped short by the safety. A physical block. It is said that damage can be done to the striker by doing this repeatedly, possibly causing light strikes or a gritty trigger.

The simple solution is to just remove it. Once you are familiar with the takedown procedures of the pistol removing the block is a 20 second job. It goes back in just as easy.

Well I did it twice, how many times has this new pistol been dry fired without the mag?

If it's a display model it's probably been dry fired a lot. Don't buy that one if you have a concern about possible firing pin damage. Ask for a new one from the back and use a snap cap if you decide to leave the safety block in.

joneb,

I've got an SR40C... which I have removed the magazine safety from.

I just looked at the mag safety that I removed from the pistol and looked it over... I've dropped the striker onto the safety numerous times not thinking about it being there... Anyway, there is not a mark on the safety itself anywhere... it is pristine. I last had my slide apart when I removed the mag safety, and looked over the striker pretty close... there were no marks or wear or dings on it as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. As was said before, a lot of people remove it then you don't have to worry about it. It literally only takes 20 seconds to remove... Well, maybe a minute if you've never done it before. Very easy to do.

I shoot .45 ACP and don't own a 9mm. The SR9c will be my first if I ever buy one. I love the feel and it comes up with the sights in line. Maybe my daughter will like it and I'll shoot hers. ;-)

That's why I bought mine; I really liked the shape of the grip frame, the material they used in it's construction, and how quick and easy it is to get on target with the sights.

It is one of the best "feeling" handgun grips on the market. The holster market has really responded to the SR-series, too. They're on sale all the time in the midwest under 5 bills NIB with the 10-rd flush and 17-rd extended mag package.

I should also mention that my gun has one of the best triggers right out of the box; better than all of my other polymer pistols. Plus I also like the interchangeable back strap insert and the thumb safety. The 17 round magazine is also a nice feature too for use at the range or for home defense.
